Reaching for the top shelf shouldn't feel like a one-sided struggle! 📦✨
Continuing our monthly focus on effortless overhead reach, today’s exercise uses a classic trick to rebuild confidence and mobility: Dowel-Assisted Shoulder Elevation.
When one shoulder is feeling stiff, painful, or weak, your other arm can step in as the ultimate team player! By holding a dowel, broomstick, or cane with both hands, your "good" arm does the heavy lifting, gently guiding your working shoulder through a full overhead range of motion without forcing or straining the joint.
How to try it:
- Stand tall or sit comfortably, holding a light dowel behind you with a wide grip.
- Let your stronger arm push the stick upward and slightly forward.
- Allow your stiffer shoulder to go along for the ride, stopping at a comfortable, pain-free height.
- Pause for a breath at the top, then slowly lower back down.
Aim for 8–10 smooth reps! It’s one of the safest ways to show your shoulder that moving overhead is safe again.

Say goodbye to persistent head tension! 💆♀️✨
If tension headaches have been sneaking into your week, clinical research has some great news: manual therapy and targeted head and neck massage are proven non-drug options for effective headache relief.
A 2021 systematic review published in Cureus showed that manual physical therapies, like massage, muscle release, and neck mobilization, can significantly reduce headache frequency and pain intensity. In fact, manual therapy was found to have comparable efficacy to prophylactic headache medications, all without the side effects!
Here is how manual therapy helps:
- Relieves Trigger Points: Releases tight, tender spots in the neck, trapezius, and suboccipital muscles that trigger tension.
- Improves Neck Mobility: Restores natural movement in the upper spine to take pressure off surrounding tissues.
- Long-Term Relief: Regular sessions help lower the overall number of headache days per month.
Instead of waiting for a headache to strike, manual therapy offers a proactive, natural way to keep you feeling clear-headed and comfortable!

Unlocking your shoulders starts in a place you might not expect, your upper back! 🧘♀️✨
Continuing our mission to make reaching for high shelves easy, today’s hero move is Foam Roller Thoracic Extension.
It’s easy to focus only on the shoulder joint when you're reaching overhead, but your thoracic spine (mid-back) plays a massive role. If your mid-back is stiff or rounded, your shoulder blades can’t glide properly, which limits your reach and can even lead to shoulder pinching. Opening up your upper back gives your shoulders the green light to move freely!
How to try it:
- Lie down with a foam roller positioned horizontally across your mid-back (keep it off your lower back!).
- Support your head gently with your hands.
- Keep your hips planted on the floor, inhale, and gently extend your upper back over the roller.
- Exhale as you return to the start. Pause and roll up or down a bit at the time, repeating for 5 to 8 relaxing breaths.
Give this a go before reaching for your next high shelf; your shoulders will thank you!

Reaching for the top shelf without shoulder tightness? Yes, please! 🙋♀️✨
Following up on our mid-back mobility focus, today's exercise works on getting your arms overhead safely and smoothly: Supine Assisted Shoulder Flexion.
By lying flat on your back (supine), your spine and ribs stay fully supported. Using a light broomstick, dowel, or even a towel held in both hands, your stronger arm can gently guide your target shoulder through a comfortable range of motion, zero strain required!
How to try it:
- Lie flat on your back
- Hold a stick or dowel with both hands, shoulder-width apart.
- Engage your core and make your lower back stable
- Slowly lift your arms overhead toward the floor behind you, letting your unaffected arm assist the movement.
- Go only as far as feels comfortable, hold for a breath, and lower back down.
Aim for 8–10 smooth reps! It’s one of the best ways to restore overhead mobility so grabbing dishes or boxes from high shelves feels light and easy.

Reaching for that top shelf shouldn't come with a side of shoulder pinch! 📦✨
When it comes to grabbing items overhead, most people think it's all in the shoulders. But here’s a fun movement secret: your thoracic spine (your mid-back) is secretly the star of the show!
To reach up comfortably without straining your shoulders, your mid-back needs to extend and rotate smoothly. When your thoracic spine moves well, your shoulders have the space and freedom they need to do their job pain-free.
This month, we’re focusing on movements to unlock your mid-back and make grabbing things from high shelves feel totally effortless!

Picking up things off the floor shouldn't feel like a workout in itself! ✨
Throughout this month, we’ve been focusing on building the mobility and strength you need to reach the ground safely, smoothly, and pain-free. Here is a quick recap of the moves we've mastered together:
- Hip Hinge: Learning to bend from the hips, not the lower back, to protect your spine.
- Knee to chest stretch
- Hamstrings stretch
- Split Squat on a Step: Opening up tight hips and improving single-leg stability for deep, effortless reaching.
The Golden Rule: Hinge at the hips, bend the knees, and drive through the feet!
Which of these three exercises helped your movement the most this month? Drop your favorite in the comments below! 👇
Say goodbye to awkward bending! 🏋️✨
If picking up things off the floor has felt like a chore lately, this month's feature exercise is about to be your new best friend: The Split Squat on a Step.
By elevating your front foot, you get a deeper range of motion that opens up your hips and strengthens your legs at the same time. Stronger, more mobile hips mean you can lower yourself down smoothly, taking the strain off your lower back every time you grab something off the ground.
How to try it:
- Place your front foot flat on a low step or platform.
- Step your back foot far enough behind you so you feel balanced.
- Lower your back knee toward the ground while keeping your chest up and core engaged.
Drive through your front heel to push back up.
Aim for 8–10 smooth reps per side!
NOTE: Have a look at our video, can you spot the compensating movement?
Make sure that you stand nice and tall and in-line during the movement
Give it a shot during your next movement break, and let us know in the comments; what’s the most random thing you've had to pick up off the floor this week? 👇

🦵 Reach the Floor Effortlessly: The Standing Hamstring Stretch! 🌾✨
When the back of your thighs (your hamstrings) are tight, they literally lock down your pelvis, making it almost impossible to hinge properly at the hips. This forces your lower back to bend way more than it should. As we continue refining our movement for picking things up from the floor, loosening up those hamstrings is a total game-changer! 🔓
🛠️ How to do it:
- Stand tall and place one heel slightly in front of you with your toes pointing up toward the ceiling.
- Keep your hands on your hips and a soft bend in your back leg.
- Keep your spine long and straight as you push your hips back and hinge forward from your waist.
- Stop as soon as you feel a smooth, comfortable stretch down the back of your front thigh.
- Hold for 20–30 seconds, taking deep, steady breaths, then switch legs!
⚠️ Pro-Tip: Resisting the urge to round your shoulders and reach for your toes with your hands! Focus entirely on sending your tailbone back, that’s where the real hip magic happens.
When your hamstrings have room to give, your hips can do their job, keeping your spine safe every single time you reach for the floor. 💪
Give it a try before your next walk or chore session! Drop a 🦵 in the comments if your legs needed this today! 👇
