Training a dog goes far beyond sit, stay and drop—and I have to commend Chich’s new parents because they are taking his training and wellbeing very seriously.

Chich was abandoned because his previous owners moved overseas… and I’ll leave it at that.

Instead, let’s talk about the people who chose him.

They adopted a grown dog with no background information and no reliable history. They didn’t know how he would respond to other dogs, cats, children, strangers, grooming or even life inside a new home.

For anyone considering rescuing an adult dog, please think carefully. It can be emotionally, physically and mentally exhausting. Rescue isn’t for everyone—and if you make that commitment, you must be prepared to stand by that dog, even when it becomes difficult.

Thankfully, Chich was one of the lucky ones. His new parents are patient, responsible and completely dedicated to giving him the life he deserves.

I’ve been recruited to help them navigate those first few crucial months as he settles into his new home. That means much more than teaching basic commands. It includes carefully introducing him to grooming, bathing, cats, dogs, different people and new environments, while helping his family understand responsible pet ownership based on his individual needs.

Every rescue dog comes with a story—even when we don’t know what that story is. My experience with rescue dogs will hopefully make Chich’s transition easier, safer and much shorter.

He may have been abandoned once, but this time, he is home. ❤️🐾
