CONFESSION: I’m not actually a massage therapist. šŸ˜‚

My training is in Beauty Therapy, which included exactly ONE massage unit.

I was shown how to massage… and from there, I’ve pretty much found my own way.

Over the years I’ve become fascinated by the body and how it holds tension, where we carry stress, and how different every person feels under my hands.

I’ve learned, experimented and developed a style of massage that feels very much like my own.

And apparently you guys quite like it, because massage has quietly become one of my most booked treatments lately. šŸ˜‚

But I do have a little secret weapon that I use in every single massage…

RENU28.

I apply it directly to the areas I’m working on before I begin my massage, then massage over the top.

And no, I’m not giving away all my secrets just yet. šŸ˜‰

But if you’ve had a massage with me recently and wondered what that gel was…

Now you know.

RENU28 is included in every Pemberton Beauty massage.

A client said something to me recently that really stuck with me.

ā€œI’m nervous about what you’ll put on my skin.ā€

And I completely understood why.

When your skin reacts easily, trying something new can feel like a risk. So rather than seeing her reactive skin as something I needed to ā€œtreatā€, I looked at what her skin actually needed.

Gentle treatment. Hydration. Barrier support. And LED.

The result was beautiful but more importantly, she realised her skin could actually feel good after a facial.

If you’ve been avoiding facials because you’re worried about how your skin will react, you don’t need to work out what treatment your skin needs yourself.

You can book a Skin Consultation, or if you’d like to have your skin treated on the day, book our First Time Client Experience, which includes a full consultation followed by a customised facial.

We’ll look at your skin first, then decide what it needs.

Your skin barrier is one of the first things I’m looking at when I assess your skin.

Because we can talk about pigmentation, ageing, texture, breakouts and all the things you’d like to change…

But if your skin is dehydrated, reactive and its barrier isn’t functioning well, sometimes we need to deal with that first.

And this is where I think people can get caught in a cycle.

Skin isn’t behaving → buy another product → add another active → exfoliate a little more → skin becomes even more unhappy → decide you have ā€œsensitive skinā€.

More isn’t always better.

Sometimes we need to strip things right back and give the skin a chance to function properly again.

Hydration. Barrier support. Protection. The right treatments at the right time.

Then we can start working towards the bigger skin goals.

Because I’m not interested in giving you the strongest treatment your skin can possibly tolerate.

I’m interested in getting your skin healthier and functioning better so we can actually get results from it. šŸ¤

I hear ā€œmy skin is just really sensitiveā€ all the time.

And sometimes it absolutely is.

But sometimes when we actually look at what the skin is doing, there’s more going on.

It might be dehydrated. The barrier might not be functioning as well as it should. It might be over-treated, over-cleansed or simply not getting what it needs.

And when that happens, skin can become reactive to things it would normally tolerate perfectly well.

This is why I don’t believe in just throwing stronger products or treatments at a skin because we want a quicker result.

First, we need to understand what’s happening.

Sometimes the best thing we can do for your skin is actually LESS.

Calm it down. Rehydrate it. Support the barrier. Get it functioning better.

Then we can decide what comes next.

So if you’ve spent years saying ā€œI can’t have facials, my skin is too sensitiveā€ — don’t write your skin off just yet šŸ¤

It might just need a different approach.

Sometimes what feels like sensitive skin is skin that isn't functioning as well as it could.

Redness. Stinging. Tightness. Flaking. Products that suddenly burn. Feeling like your skin reacts to absolutely everything.

These can all be signs that your skin barrier isn't doing its job particularly well.

When that protective barrier is compromised, your skin can lose water more easily and become more vulnerable to everything it comes into contact with.

So rather than continually treating your skin as simply "sensitive", sometimes the better question is...

Why is my skin reacting in the first place?

That's where we start.

Over the next little while I'm going to be talking more about sensitive and reactive skin, what can cause it, and how we approach it in clinic.

Because having reactive skin doesn't necessarily mean professional skin treatments aren't for you. It means we need to understand your skin first.

šŸ’™ What does blue LED light actually do?

Blue light therapy is one of my favourite treatments for clients experiencing acne and congestion.

It works by targeting the acne causing bacteria that contribute to breakouts, while helping to calm inflammation and support clearer, healthier skin.

One of the best parts? It's completely non invasive, pain free and requires no downtime.

Not every client needs blue light. During your consultation I'll choose the most appropriate Dermalux LED protocol based on your skin concerns. Whether that's acne, redness, ageing, wound healing or skin rejuvenation, every treatment is tailored to your skin.

Healthy skin starts with the right diagnosis, not just the right treatment.

If you're struggling with acne or would like to learn more about LED light therapy, I'd love to help.

Busy rainy days 🄰 set-up with me! I love this part just as much as the treatments themselves. šŸ¤
