Progress since my 2018 presentation with Soroptimist International convention. "Great to see Soroptimist International Stafford President has 'Peaches Womb Cancer Trust' as her charity for the year because of her and her predecessor's life experiences. We have a speaker from the trust at our September meeting. We're moving in the right direction Kath. I'm certain that we'll be raising awareness amongst our members though. SI Stafford, SIGBI."

Gynaecological cancers are more common than you think and they are silently killing women across Aotearoa every day.

In fact, every year approximately 1000 New Zealanders are diagnosed with 1 of the 5 gynaecological cancers and 400 will die from one every year. That’s over one NZer a day - that’s higher than our road toll! And yet, these cancers remain underfunded and even scarier, many women don’t even know the symptoms to watch out for.

Gynaecological cancers are cancers that start in parts of the female reproductive system. There are five gynaecological cancers:
• ovarian
• uterine (endometrial)
• vaginal
• cervical
• vulval

Cervical smears do not detect all 5 of the gynaecological cancers. Cervical smears only detect cervical cancer. Currently, there are no screening options for detecting the other 4 gynaecological cancers

This is why we must talk about it and that women know the signs to get an early diagnosis.

Having life-saving conversations about gynaecological health saves lives.

If you notice any changes, or if something doesn’t feel right, or if you notice anything that isn’t the normal for you, see your GP straight away.
