😰 Is Stress Depleting Your Magnesium?

Feeling tired, tense, anxious or struggling to sleep?

Chronic stress doesn’t just affect your mind—it can also increase your body’s need for magnesium, an essential mineral involved in over 300 processes in the body.

When we’re under ongoing stress, magnesium is used more rapidly, and low levels may contribute to symptoms such as:

✨ Muscle tension and cramps
✨ Headaches
✨ Poor sleep
✨ Fatigue
✨ Feeling overwhelmed or anxious
✨ Eye twitches
✨ Restless legs

While magnesium isn’t a cure for stress, ensuring you get enough through your diet—or supplements if recommended by your healthcare professional—may help support normal muscle and nervous system function.

How can remedial massage help?

When your body is under stress, muscles often remain tight and your nervous system can stay in “fight or flight” mode.

Remedial massage can help by:
💙 Reducing muscle tension
💙 Encouraging relaxation
💙 Supporting better sleep
💙 Improving circulation
💙 Helping your body switch into “rest and restore” mode

The best results often come from combining healthy nutrition, stress management, quality sleep, regular movement and hands-on treatment.

🌿 Ask us in the clinic about our favourite magnesium products and recovery recommendations. We’re always happy to share what’s worked well for many of our clients and help you choose options that may support your treatment goals.

Take care of your body—it works hard for you every day.

👣 Is Heel Pain Stopping You in Your Tracks?

That sharp pain under your heel when you take your first steps in the morning isn’t something you should ignore.

It could be plantar fasciitis—one of the most common causes of heel pain.

The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue that supports your arch. When it’s overloaded, irritated or under constant tension, even simple activities like walking can become painful.

Common signs include:

✔️ Sharp pain under the heel
✔️ Pain with your first steps in the morning
✔️ Pain after sitting for long periods
✔️ Increased discomfort after standing or walking

How can remedial massage help?

Remedial massage doesn’t just focus on where it hurts. We look at why it’s happening.

Treatment may include:
👣 Releasing tight calf muscles that pull on the plantar fascia.
👣 Improving mobility through the ankle and foot.
👣 Reducing tension in the Achilles tendon and surrounding muscles.
👣 Improving circulation to support the body’s natural healing process.
👣 Addressing tightness through the hips and glutes that may be changing the way you walk and increasing stress on your feet.

Massage is often most effective when combined with stretching, strengthening exercises and supportive footwear.

The earlier plantar fasciitis is addressed, the better the chance of preventing it from becoming a long-term problem.

💙 If every step is painful, don’t just put up with it. Let’s help you get back to walking comfortably.

🌀 Roll to Feel Better!

Do you wake up feeling stiff? Sit at a desk all day? Train hard at the gym? Or simply carry stress in your muscles?

A foam roller is one of the simplest tools you can use at home to keep your body moving well between massage appointments.

Just 5–10 minutes a day can help:
✔️ Reduce muscle tightness
✔️ Improve flexibility and mobility
✔️ Increase circulation
✔️ Ease tension and soreness
✔️ Speed up recovery after exercise

💡 Top tip: Roll slowly and pause on tight spots for 30–60 seconds while taking slow, deep breaths. It shouldn’t feel unbearable—gentle discomfort is enough.

My favourite areas to focus on are:
• Calves
• Hamstrings
• Glutes
• Upper back
• Quadriceps

Remember, foam rolling doesn’t replace remedial massage—it complements it. Massage allows us to assess what’s causing your pain and treat the muscles more specifically, while foam rolling helps you maintain those results at home.

Small daily habits really do make a big difference.

💙 Move better. Feel better. Live better.

💙 Are You Always in “Go Mode”?

Do you wake up already thinking about everything you need to do?

✔️ Work
✔️ Family
✔️ The house
✔️ Everyone else’s needs… before your own.

For many women, life becomes a constant cycle of rushing, multitasking and never truly switching off. Over time, your body starts to keep score.

You might notice:
• Tight neck and shoulders
• Jaw clenching
• Poor sleep
• Constant fatigue
• Racing thoughts
• Digestive discomfort
• Feeling overwhelmed, even when you’ve achieved so much.

While “female rushing syndrome” isn’t a medical diagnosis, it describes what many women experience when their nervous system stays in a constant state of stress.

The good news is your body can learn to slow down.

✨ Remedial massage helps reduce muscle tension, calm the nervous system and create the space your body needs to rest and recover.

Sometimes, taking one hour for yourself isn’t a luxury—it’s exactly what your body has been asking for.

💙 Slow down. Breathe. Let your body recharge.

🦵 Do your hips feel tight every time you stand up?

Tight hips aren’t just something athletes experience. I see them every week in people who spend long hours sitting at a desk, driving, gardening, exercising, or simply dealing with the everyday stresses of life.

When your hips lose mobility, your body often compensates. This can contribute to:

✔ Lower back pain
✔ Hip discomfort
✔ Tight hamstrings
✔ Knee pain
✔ Poor posture
✔ Reduced balance and flexibility

The good news is that a few simple mobility exercises, done consistently, can make a real difference.

I’ve put together 5 of my favourite hip mobility exercises to help you improve flexibility, reduce stiffness, and keep your body moving well.

💙 For the best results, combine these exercises with remedial massage.

Remedial massage can help:
✨ Release tight muscles and fascia
✨ Improve hip and pelvic mobility
✨ Reduce muscle tension and pain
✨ Improve movement patterns
✨ Support your recovery and help prevent recurring tightness

Remember, stretching works best when the muscles are able to relax first.

💙 Why Do You Feel Sore After a Massage?

One of the most common questions I get asked is:

“Is it normal to feel sore after a remedial massage?”

The short answer is: sometimes, yes.

During a remedial massage, we often work on areas that have been tight, restricted, overworked, or holding tension for weeks, months, or even years.

As those muscles begin to release, it’s not unusual to experience some mild soreness afterwards—similar to how you might feel after exercising muscles you haven’t used in a while.

What’s Normal?

✔ Mild soreness or tenderness
✔ Feeling bruised without visible bruising
✔ Temporary fatigue
✔ Increased thirst
✔ Feeling deeply relaxed or sleepy

This usually settles within 24–72 hours.

How to Recover Faster

💧 Drink plenty of water

🚶 Gentle movement such as walking

🛌 Prioritise rest and sleep

🔥 Apply a heat pack if needed

🥗 Nourish your body with healthy foods

🧘 Gentle stretching if comfortable

When Is It Not Normal?

While mild soreness can be part of the recovery process, severe pain, significant swelling, numbness, or symptoms that continue to worsen should always be discussed with your therapist or healthcare provider.

The Good News

Many clients tell me that while they felt a little tender the next day, they then noticed:
✨ Better movement
✨ Less tension
✨ Reduced headaches
✨ Improved sleep
✨ Easier movement and flexibility

Every body responds differently, and treatment is always tailored to your needs.

Have you ever felt sore after a massage, or do you usually feel relaxed straight away?

💙 Feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or constantly “on”?

Here’s a simple technique that many people find surprisingly relaxing.

By lying over a bolster or firm cushion at the hip crease for a few minutes, the hip flexors can begin to relax, helping the body shift out of tension and into a calmer state.

Why does this matter?

The hip flexors are often tight from:
✔ Sitting for long periods
✔ Driving
✔ Stress and anxiety
✔ Busy lifestyles
✔ Lack of movement

When these muscles stay tight, they can contribute to:
• Lower back tension
• Hip discomfort
• Poor posture
• Restricted movement
• A feeling of being unable to fully relax

Many people notice that when the hips release, the whole body feels calmer.

It’s a gentle reminder that sometimes the body doesn’t need more pushing, more rushing, or more doing.

Sometimes it needs:
✨ Rest
✨ Breathing space
✨ Gentle movement
✨ Recovery

At Joondalup Massage, we often see how stress shows up physically in the body. Tight hips, tight shoulders, headaches, poor sleep, and muscle tension are often connected to an overworked nervous system.

Small daily habits can make a big difference.

Have you ever tried a hip flexor release exercise like this before?

💙 Have you ever reached behind you to do up your bra and felt a sharp shoulder pain?

You’re not alone.

This is one of the most common complaints I hear from women, especially during perimenopause and menopause.

At first, it might just feel like a little stiffness.

Then you notice:
⚠️ Reaching behind your back hurts
⚠️ Putting on a bra becomes difficult
⚠️ Lifting your arm overhead feels restricted
⚠️ Sleeping on that shoulder becomes uncomfortable

Many women are surprised to learn that hormonal changes can play a role.

As oestrogen levels decline, inflammation can increase and the tissues around the shoulder can become more sensitive, tight, and prone to conditions such as frozen shoulder.

The good news?

The earlier you address it, the better the outcome tends to be.

💙 How remedial massage can help:

✔ Reduce muscle tension around the shoulder
✔ Improve circulation
✔ Increase mobility and range of motion
✔ Reduce compensation patterns in the neck and upper back
✔ Support recovery with mobility exercises and stretches

Don’t wait until you can barely lift your arm.

A small shoulder problem today can become a much bigger problem if left untreated.

Let’s get you moving comfortably again.

🚶‍♀️ “I know my posture is bad…”

It’s one of the most common things I hear from clients with back pain.

But posture isn’t always the problem.

Often, the real issue is that the body has become stiff, weak, tired, or stuck in the same positions for hours every day.

Think about how much time we spend:

💻 Sitting at a desk
📱 Looking down at phones
🚗 Driving
🛋 Sitting on the couch
😴 Sleeping in the same position

Over time, muscles can become tight, joints can become restricted, and the body starts compensating.

This may lead to:

⚠️ Lower back pain
⚠️ Mid-back tightness
⚠️ Neck and shoulder tension
⚠️ Headaches
⚠️ Hip stiffness
⚠️ Reduced mobility

The good news?

Your body is adaptable.

How remedial massage can help:

✔ Release tight muscles
✔ Improve joint mobility
✔ Improve circulation
✔ Reduce pain and stiffness
✔ Help restore natural movement patterns
✔ Support nervous system relaxation

We also provide simple mobility exercises and stretching advice so you can continue improving between treatments.

Recovery isn’t about sitting perfectly straight all day.

It’s about helping your body move well, move often, and recover properly.

If your back has been talking to you lately, don’t ignore it.

Let’s get you moving comfortably again. 💙
