My reaction when I found out I’m officially a finalist for Makeup Artist of the Year 🥹✨💄

A huge congratulations to everyone who entered WA Skin, Spa, Aesthetics & Beauty Awards 👏🤍

Whether you made it as a finalist or not, please be incredibly proud of yourself. Running a business is HARD, and putting yourself out there and taking the time, effort and courage to submit your work is a huge achievement in itself.

Working in this industry can be tough mentally, physically and emotionally, so please remember to celebrate yourself every single day. If you’re showing up, creating, working hard and continuing to do what you love day in and day out — you’re already a superstar. ✨

Three things makeup artists hate hearing 😂

1. “I want natural makeup.”
Then they show you an inspiration photo that is clearly neutral makeup. Babe… those are two completely different looks. 😭 Natural makeup and neutral-toned makeup are not the same thing.

2. “I just don’t want it to look cakey.”
But they also want full coverage, no texture, no visible pores, and their dark circles completely erased. 😂 Unfortunately, full coverage usually requires layering products. You can’t have every layer of makeup disappear while still expecting it to cover everything.

3. When they show you an Instagram photo and expect to look exactly like it.
Except… their features don’t look like the person in the photo, their undertone is different, their skin is different, their facial structure is different — basically, everything is different. 😂

At the end of the day, I’m a makeup artist, not a plastic surgeon. I can enhance your features and create a look that suits you, but I can’t recreate someone else’s face.

Makeup isn’t botox. As makeup artists, we can only do so much. If you want to achieve a more youthful, radiant look on your wedding day, investing in your skin is the best place to start.
