Wonderful to see a Snail Trail happening in the Barossa and Clare Valleys. The Snail of Approval is so well-recognised in Europe as a symbol of ‘good, clean and fair’ and the recent passing of Slow Food International founder Carlo Petrini adds a special layer of meaning to the region’s inaugural Snail Trail 🐌🌿

Vale Carlo, founder of the Slow Food movement, you were an exceptional visionary who changed the way humanity thinks about food, power, culture and community.
“Being slow means you control the rhythms of your own life” — Carlo Petrini
“Slow Food unites the pleasure of food with responsibility, sustainability and harmony with nature” — Carlo Petrini
Through Slow Food, Carlo reminded us that food is never just food but also deeply political. Every seed saved, every small producer supported, every local market protected and every recipe handed down through generations is an act of resistance against exploitation. He challenged us to see that what we eat shapes not only our health, but our environment, economies, farming systems and the future of our communities.
In a world racing toward convenience and uniformity driven by speed, profit and mass production, he championed biodiversity, sustainability and the rights of everyday people to access food that is good, clean and fair. He reminded us that slowing down around the table and appreciating the flavours, textures and stories behind each dish is not indulgence but connection and preservation of cultural identity.
Grazie Carlo for reminding us that food is culture, food is memory, and food has the power to change the world ❤️ May your legacy live on in kitchens, markets, farms, vineyards and family tables where so many of us continue to be inspired by his vision of good, clean and fair food for all.
