Self care could just be…. Just slow down and breathe

There’s nothing like hand picked roses from the farm to brighten my day at work.

My partner needed a tidy up.
I’ve encouraged him to grow a beard and although I love the look, it brings with it a little more need for “manscaping”.
He very graciously allowed me to clean up his cheek line with electrolysis and while he was on my treatment couch, I waxed those pesky hairs from his ears and nostrils, something all men of a certain age, on reflection, could do with.
Next, came the eyebrows. I was delighted to discover that with a little wax and snip and a light brown tint of his unruly, salt and pepper brow line, I managed to take years off his face.
The transformation was amazing.
He still looks like a man, a man who clearly takes care of his appearance.

Beauty through the pain. I am in absolute awe of how many clients bravely front up to my salon to be subjected to pain.
Personally I am such a wuss when it comes to physical pain, my sporadically For 40 years now, I have witnessed the heroic dedication that my clients have demonstrated in the pursuit of removing unwanted hair from their bodies and faces, and impurities from their skins. A large component of my work is the delicate art of Electrolysis, the only permanent method of hair removal, which although very effective, it doesn’t tickle.
Extraction of blackheads and milia is also a regular request that requires a little stoicism to push through.
It takes courage to take that first step and acknowledge that we need help, so it’s humbling that despite the discomfort of some of my treatments, so many clients tell me that there is beauty in the pain.
They endure it and keep coming back, entrusting me as their co-pilot on their journey of self-improvement.
I appreciate that it’s a fine line between the fear of pain and the euphoria of overcoming an issue that has eroded self esteem, and that’s the space that I work within. I am an empath, so I feel the tension in their bodies, but I also sense the gratitude that emanates from them after the process is over and the results are evident. Pain, whether physical or emotional is simply a part of life. From my own experience, whenever I shy away from it, the problem persists and nothing changes. I have always loved this quote by Anais Nin... “And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom”.
The most fruitful times of growth in my quest for self improvement have come about when I’ve faced the possibility of pain and went there anyway.

Many of us do it. It’s not something we talk about and it’s a source of irritation, maybe even a little obsessiveness.

I’m talking about plucking out those prickly strong hairs from our chins.
It is a surprisingly common problem for woman of all ages and cultural backgrounds, and I’ve helped countless of them to finally be rid of this pesky problem with Electrolysis and IPL ( Intense Pulse Light), in the last 38 years.
