CELEBRATING 20 YEARS IN BUSINESS
Platinum Black Hair was founded on November 14th, 2005. The story began when my parents and I took their bus to Torquay to purchase second-hand salon equipment, choosing pre-owned items as a precaution in case the business did not succeed. We opened our doors in a modest space on Macalister Street in Sale.
Looking back on those early days, I vividly remember the mix of excitement and nervousness I felt. It is incredible to reflect on how much we have grown since those humble beginnings. What started as a hopeful leap of faith—searching for cost-effective ways to get established—has blossomed into a thriving business. This success is the result of hard work, long hours, and the unwavering support of my family and friends. The journey from our first trip to Torquay for a second-hand fit out to now, celebrating two decades of growth, is truly remarkable.
In the beginning, our advertising efforts were simple. A brief “Meet our Trader” feature in the Gippy Times and a letterbox drop of flyers with my mum were our only forms of marketing. From there, word of mouth became the driving force behind our growth and continued success.
Over the past 20 years, I have created countless cherished memories. From collaborating with talented hairdressers and meeting new clients, to spending many treasured hours with my mum looking after salon duties. I have also had the pleasure of caring for wedding parties and debutantes, sharing in some of the most important moments of their lives.
Self-employment has given me the flexibility to balance my career and family life. It has allowed me to be present for my two children, rarely missing any important event in their lives—something for which I am deeply grateful.
Throughout this journey, I have grown not only as a business owner but also as an individual. I have developed new skills and formed wonderful friendships with many amazing clients. Thank you to all the beautiful clients I have met along the way, especially those I have had the privilege of caring for throughout the entire 20 years. Your loyalty and support mean the world to me. I truly love what I do, and my passion is fueled by all the wonderful people who have walked through my door.
My clients are more than just customers—they have become friends. Together, we have shared in each other's highs and lows. I am grateful for all the moments we have spent together, and your support has contributed immensely to my professional and personal development.
I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to my family, friends, and husband for their continued support and encouragement. Their constant support and belief in my abilities have played a pivotal role in my professional journey. Without them by my side, encouraging me to pursue my dreams, I am not sure I would have found the courage to take the leap into self-employment. The confidence they have shown in me has made all the difference, and I will be forever grateful.
Thanks, and here’s to many more years ahead
