Lymphoedema Awareness Week 2026
United in care, diverse in practice.

What does this mean?

Australasian Lymphology Association (ALA) accredited lymphoedema practitioners come from a range of different health professional backgrounds such as remedial massage therapists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists. We come together from these diverse backgrounds with the same goal of supporting our patients with the best possible care.

All have completed accredited training with the ALA and are required to participate in professional development to ensure that they are supporting patients with the most up-to-date, evidence based practices.

To access an accredited lymphoedema practitioner in your area, check out the find a practitioner page on the ALA website here ⬇️

I’m looking forward to the kick off of Lipoedema Empower You - a new Australian podcast series on Lipoedema!

The podcast is hosted by 2 lovely ladies who speak with lived experience of the condition and work to support women with lipoedema through health and mindset coaching and functional nutrition.

Be sure to follow them on Facebook to find out when you can listen to the first episode!

One of the most frustrating parts of having lipoedema is that so few people—including many healthcare providers—actually understand this condition.

Let's change that. Here's what everyone needs to know:

WHAT IS LIPOEDEMA?
Lipoedema is a chronic condition characterised by the symmetrical buildup of adipose tissue (fat) in the legs and sometimes arms. It's often painful, creates a feeling of heaviness, and is resistant to diet and exercise.

KEY FACTS:
• It affects an estimated 11% of women (though it's massively under-diagnosed)
• It's NOT the same as obesity or lymphedema (though it can occur alongside them)
• It's progressive—it typically gets worse over time without intervention
• It has a strong genetic component
• Standard "eat less, move more" advice doesn't work—and can actually make things worse

WHY THIS MATTERS:
As a Functional Nutritionist (Carrie) and Health & Mindset Coach (Vanessa) who specialise in lipoedema, we see clients every day who've spent YEARS being told to "just lose weight" or that their pain is all in their head.

Getting the right diagnosis opens the door to the right support. That's what we're here to provide.

Our podcast, Lipoedema Empower You, launches in 5 days with Episode 1 covering navigating a diagnosis, the importance of mindset, and the liberating knowledge that we don’t have to do everything.

Throughout our podcast series, we’ll be sharing the evidence-based nutrition and mindset strategies that actually support the lipoedema body.
