Every woman has a story and a reason for her brows.

This beautiful woman has always been edgy. She’s been goth for a long time and came to me with her beautiful black goth eyebrows.

She told me it was time for a change. Time to soften them, as she’s in her mid 40s and felt like she couldn’t be goth forever.

So I drew on a soft shape for her.

And she was really unsure.

I couldn’t quite work out why.

Then it hit me.

These new soft brows were taking away part of her identity.

Not her inner identity. She was still completely herself.

But those strong black brows were part of how she expressed herself to the outside world. They were part of her look. Part of her edge.

And suddenly taking them away felt like taking away a little piece of that.

So we talked about it.

I told her about myself and how, 13 years ago, I had purple dreadlocks and a very full-on alternative look.

I eventually let go of the dreads and softened my look too.

But I didn’t let go of who I was.

I still have my alternative style. I’ve just softened it.

And I think that’s exactly what she was trying to work out for herself.

She didn’t book in that day.

Honestly, I didn’t think she would.

Then a few days later I got a message asking if she could change her appointment time.

Lo and behold, she had gone home that night and booked herself in.

She just needed some time to look at the brows I had drawn on her and work out how they made her feel.

And this is why I love a proper consultation.

Because sometimes it’s not about whether a brow looks good.

It’s about whether it still feels like you.

Nobody talks about as we age and start to dramatically change. For some women it can happen in their 40s. For some 50s for some 60s or 70s but at some point we quietly grieve the young woman we used to be.

Then before you know it life kicks you one more time and takes away your brows for good or replaces them with long curly unruly John Howard’s.

I create a soft foundation first, and then we build on it at the touch-up appointment.

Not everyone needs their brows this light, but some women absolutely do.

I just wanted to show you what a genuinely soft, subtle brow can look like once healed.

Natural doesn’t have to mean dark. And eyebrow tattooing doesn’t have to look obvious.
