The name Cult of Scent was inspired by the deep magical way that fragrances can affect us, and yet o

Cult of Scent is both a fragrance line and an art project; a response to the challenge of putting a story out into the world, whether it is beautiful or just because it is an interesting proposition and provokes thought or conversation.

Speed smelling on strips that only have a dot of colour for reference. We had to pick one that resonated with us, it didn't matter if it was a like or dislike, just one scent to explore.
We then had to create an image using the colours that resonated with the scent in a very short time that illustrated how we felt.
Ness then revealed what the scents were, and their notes and we discussed our thoughts on the scents. After this, we had to create a new image seeing how our impression of the scent was influenced by the discussion and learning the notes.
1st impression was the curved sketch, second was the more detailed geometric piece.
Across the board was a difference in intensity in the images.
For me it was a challenge not to try to break down the scent from a technical perspective, but just be led by the feel.
It was also interesting to hear how our opinions contrasted or were shared.
Vanessa Stockard it was so cool to be led through this workshop. I love your perspective on scent and art!

Learning about painting elements with Greg Ferry we started in the chapel of the villa, then moved outside. Here Greg is showing how he utilises split complement colours in painting to limit the palette and create atmosphere and dimension. I'm thinking about how to apply this to perfume composition. There are so many parallels to explore.

Creative writing workshop with Seawolf Productions . Learning exercise in how to get a flow going. It was interesting to see what began to emerge when just letting words flow onto the page in a timed session. No judgement, just writing for 5 minutes and seeing what would land on the page. I loved hearing what everyone wrote.
