The issue of environmental contamination with COVID-19 is a very real threat. Existing research with other strains of Influenza suggests that virus can remain a risk for person-to-person contact transfer, anywhere from 1 day up to 17. If that's true for COVID-19, then appropriate infection control measures should apply to banknotes.

A really good paper by Jeanette Hope came out in 2013 which focuses on the mechanism of injury and treatment approaches linked with exposure to water damage buildings, mould and mycotoxins. If you or someone you know is affected by biotoxins like mould then you should look up this scientist on Pub Med.
