Melasma, sun damage or even darker skin types… this is one laser we’re not scared of - in fact, it’s often the saving grace.
Why?
Because the Q-switched laser wasn’t originally designed for “facials” at all… it was built for tattoo removal.
👉 Meaning it’s engineered to target pigment with extreme precision, using ultra-short (nanosecond) pulses of energy.
These pulses create a photoacoustic effect not a thermal one.
So instead of heating and damaging surrounding tissue, the energy is absorbed by pigment (melanin or ink), causing it to fragment into smaller particles that the body can then clear via the lymphatic system.
Why that matters for melasma + reactive pigment:
• Minimal heat = reduced risk of triggering melanocytes
• No aggressive injury = less post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)
• Controlled energy delivery = safer across a broader range of skin types
👉 Especially in conditions where inflammation is the driver, not just the pigment itself
So instead of forcing the skin to peel or “burn off” pigment like a IPL device would we’re working with the skin’s natural clearing pathways.
Less heat. More control. Better outcomes - especially when pigment is reactive.

With the world feeling a little… confused lately, moments like this matter more.
Time with friends, family, and a little too much chocolate (or your liquid of choice 🥂)… thoroughly enjoyed.
We hope your Easter break is well spent 🤍
When the skin is out of balance, whether you’ve been using nothing and it feels dry, or using too many products and still feeling congested - that’s where we can step in to help regulate it.
Acne isn’t just a surface problem, so it isn’t a one size fits all to only work on the surface layer.
We use Q-switch energy to work within the pore helping to loosen compacted oil and congestion, so we’re not forcing extractions or creating unnecessary trauma.
Using a 1064 wavelength - which just means we’re working deeper in the skin - we also support circulation and overall skin function.
From there, we stack treatments intentionally - following with Hydrafacial and hyaluronic acid to flush everything out, deeply rehydrate the skin, and support the barrier.
So your skin is left clear, balanced, and functioning better - not stripped.
When we support both the pore and the skin barrier, we’re not just clearing acne - we’re helping your skin regulate itself which you can expect 2-3 months of calmer oil production
Erbium. TRL. CO₂. Ablative resurfacing.
Different names, different depths, very different outcomes.
If you’ve ever been unsure what any of it actually means - you’re not alone.

A little throw back image 👌 2 treatments, 5 months between images 🔥 & THIS is exactly why we take before and afters. Always.
This client genuinely thought nothing was changing. She questioned if her time, her money… and her trust in the process was misplaced.
And honestly? Without proof that’s what most people are left with. A feeling.
But we don’t run on feelings. We run on evidence.
So we waited with no rushing to reassure. No guesswork. Just clinically aligned photography, taken properly, under the same lighting - because that’s the only way you can actually assess skin.
Prior to her second treatment, we reviewed her progress images quietly.
Clear change.
Enough that we were confident continuing her treatment- even offering to move forward complimentary if she saw no change when given the images after the next treatment, on the condition she trusted the process and allowed us to keep documenting it properly.
And in all honesty - this is also how we catch when something isn’t working.
Because yes, treatment courses are powerful… but they’re not one-size-fits-all.
If your skin isn’t responding the way it should, we need to know early so we can pivot before continuing with high-cost, energy-based treatments that may not be right for you.
That’s how we protect your outcome… and your investment.
Because continuing blindly? That’s not ethical. And it’s not how we operate (and when I’m unhappy I end up refunding or re-treating which also costs us big $, remember these treatments are expensive for us to run also)
If your clinic isn’t taking consistent, standardised before and after photos… what exactly are they basing your treatments on?
Memory? Lighting? A quick glance in the mirror?
That’s not skin assessment. That’s guesswork.
Results take time - but they should never be invisible.
When she finally saw her images side by side, the shift was undeniable.
Not subtle. Not subjective. Measurable.
Her reaction said everything.
And that’s exactly why we do things this way.
If you’re still doing one treatment at a time… we need to talk.

A treatment course which was nerve racking to start but has been one of the most rewarding!
Melasma is one of those things where you can do everything right and still flare it if you don’t respect what’s going on underneath.
And it’s never just pigment when we’re dealing with melasma.
Here in particular there was underlying erythema sitting in the skin, that constant low level heat that keeps driving it.
You can see it really clearly under the patients eyes.
That straight red line isn’t random, it’s where the vessels change and the skin is thinner so the blood flow shows through more.
So the idea of adding energy, even in a controlled way, felt like a risk.
So we just didn’t rush it.
We focused on calming the skin, supporting the barrier, and layering things in when her skin was actually ready, not when we wanted it to be.
This took a year.
Some of the results I’m most proud of aren’t the fastest ones, they’re the ones where we didn’t fight the skin.
Melasma isn’t something you strip away.
It’s something you guide back into balance.
Once you see it as a life long condition, you learn to respect it and truly change the visibility of it 🙌
Seeing TRL laser all over your Insta? Same… and we’re loving it.
This is our Erbium Sciton we’ve had for 2 years with a new nick name and honestly, we’re enjoying watching it get the spotlight it deserves.
But here’s what you actually need to know 👇🏼
TRL = Tunable Resurfacing Laser using Erbium energy.
It’s not just “another laser facial” - it’s controlled resurfacing that works by removing micro-layers of damaged skin to stimulate regeneration.
What it’s best for:
– Fine lines + early wrinkles
– Sun damage + uneven tone
– Texture (rough, crepey, enlarged pores)
– Mild–moderate acne scarring
Why it works:
Erbium targets water in the skin → creating precise micro-injury
→ triggers collagen production + new healthy skin formation
→ improves both surface quality and skin function
What most people don’t realise:
Not all resurfacing is equal.
Depth, density, and settings are everything - this is where results are made (or missed).
At TW&SKIN, we don’t use it in isolation.
Because resurfacing alone isn’t enough long-term.
We layer treatments to treat:
– Surface (Erbium / Tixel / BBL)
– Structure (RF / HIFU)
– Function (circulation, barrier, internal support)
Downtime (realistic):
– Redness: 2–4 days (up to 10 days when we go deeper)
– Dryness + flaking: 5–15 days
– Full glow: ~2–3 weeks
Pain level: manageable with numbing (not a facial, but what do we offer that is… 🤷♀️)
Who it’s for:
If your skin is starting to look textured, sun affected or tired - this is where resurfacing shines. Or someone who is time poor and only wants 2 treatments a year but still wants to be doing enough 😉.
If you’re expecting lifting → you’ll want to combine deeper modalities as well.
Bottom line:
TRL is powerful - but it’s even better when it’s part of a plan, not a one-off.
