Urdhva hastasana, or pose with arms stretched upward, is usually performed as an intermediate element in a vinyasa flow or in a dynamic sura namaskar (sun salutation) complex. During the Iyengar yoga classes this asana is given special attention and it is commonly performed separately and kept for quite a long time. Despite the apparent simplicity of the asana, in this position you can work the shoulder girdle and the spine very well.
