Ha Giang Vietnam 10 day ride through stunning countryside

While motorcycle riding in Northern Vietnam our days were long with most over 8 hours in the saddle over 10 days. Beautiful countryside, people and food. The scenery is definitely amazing with soaring mountains and charming villages. Plenty of stories though this picture of the toy koala brought a smile to me. So many of the villages would have a lot of chickens just wandering around the village and you had to keep an eye on them as they would just turn in front of you. We had just gone through a village and sure enough a chicken had changed its mind and decided to run in front of me I hit the brakes hard and missed the chicken and scared me. This is an example of Pintu ( door or Gate) you have to sometimes go through some tough choices dangerous and can be rewarding. This is a journey of 5 people doing a 10 day 1300km motorcycle trip. Called the Ha Giang loop ours is very modified consisting of off road and tar. 9 days of perfect weather then on 10 day the heavens opened all day long. The main road had closed due to landslide so we were on a different road and were 6 hours into a gruelling ride then around the corner was this oversized truck that had jack knifed blocking traffic both ways. With at least 5 to 6 hrs still ride to get back to Ha Giang. Our only choice was to go through the gateway. Luckily we were able to get all through and continue our journey. Surprisingly no one else had tried to get through the traffic on the other side was blocked for over a km. Our dramas didn’t finish there for the next 6 hrs. That is a story for another time.
