Here we are folks. March already.
Sad to see another year moving so fast. Hope you are all keeping well and going along ok. Needless to say Top Cut is forever busy and there are a few lucky ones who get an appointment pretty quick but as you know, booking in early, especially for special events is the key to avoid disappointment. Honestly can't remember the last time I took a holiday, maybe 3 years agi6 but none on the horizon so far. As for travelling to the UK to see family means I would have to renew my Aussie one and get a new UK one. Not happy Jan. Would rather give the money to my sister towards her coming here for a holiday, seeing as she was removed from the country last hols due to covid.
That covid still rears its troublesome head indeed.
Anyway I'm sad to see the end of daylight saving this month. Not sad to leave the baking hot days spent in the car, and looking forward for the first time in my life to mainly clouds, and rain. Happy dayz.

Happy new year to you all. I know it's a bit late but better late than never.
The past year has had its ups and downs for some of you but your strengths have got you through what have been dark times. I was glad I could be a lot of help and lighten the load. Now we are into 2026 and better days ahead.
There is only going to be one change this year and it rests on the weather. We have had some torrid days of temperatures in the high 30s going into the 40s some days.
I have to admit that I am finding it intolerable working in that heat. The inside of my car is often in the mid 40s. My chemical products especially suffer. An esky has recently proved worthless. I have decided to cancel any days that are going to be over 35 degrees and reschedule to the nearest cooler day.
I have spoken to some of you regarding this and I thank you for your understanding and willingness to work with me on this. Let's make this a really happy new year for you all and I look forward to another year of friendship and keeping you all looking Absolutely Fabulous. Xx

I have been incredibly busy lately. I am now going to be running the salon at The Landings Turramurra on a Wednesday morning. I have been MIA for the past fortnight filming a doco that will be more than likely coming out next year. My lips are sealed but you'll know about it when the time comes.
Looking at my appointment book I've noticed there is very little time as we lead into Christmas. All I can say is book anything you need for the rest of the year ASAP

To receive the news today that one of my clients passed away yesterday, and she had an appointment on Friday, has been heartbreaking.
Vimla, you were a truly remarkable woman. I always told you you resembled my mother in law with your pretty looks. You had a lovely nature and bore what life had served you with grace and soldiered on. You missed your husband greatly and I hope you are now safe in his arms. Your family who were so very kind to you are going to miss you lots. I'm sure your little flower patch is going to bloom and grow in remembrance of you. RIP

Well!! This is a first. Due to the horrendous downfall of rain especially in the last 24 hours, I will not be adventuring outside my door today. All clients have been contacted and rescheduled to tomorrow which has sunny skies in the forecast.
Our hearts go out to the people in the Taree district experiencing the worst flood in their history. Loss of life, homes and livestock to name a few. Not even sure my son can make it home tonight for the weekend, as his farm, although up high is slippery, bogged, and the road a quagmire. His family have been unable to get out nearly all week. Hope this rain abates so everyone can start dealing with the aftermath.

40 years ago today I picked up the keys to my hairdressing salon in Gordon. I was a single mother with a 1 year old. A very good friend helped me secure a loan from the bank and all I knew was what my hands and heart could do, hairdressing.
To say I would still be in business was not in my sights that day. My administrative ability was zero and isn't much better now but somehow or other I've succeeded and continue to do so.
The utter excitement of leaving the solicitors where money exchanged hands and everything was signed and sealed, and arriving at the salon that was now mine, was beyond comprehension.
I moved house umpteen times, had several marriages, but the SALON akways REMAINED 😍.
To each and every one who I have been honoured to be allowed to play hairdresser, and do what I love to do, I cannot express my deep gratitude enough for your support and continued loyalty.
Many deep friendships have endured and long may they continue.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

It's been a very long time between postings, but those of you who know me know that I work at a rate of knots. This year on April 3rd will be the celebration anniversary of TOP CUT HAIR design.
Celebrating 40 years.
In May it will be 3 years since the closure of the salon and moving into a Mobile Hairdressing Service.
Its certainly been an interesting couple of years. Driving around the beautiful streets if the Upper North Shore of Sydney. Remaining in the area of the salon and continuing with clients from even beyond the 40 years, to the years when I worked in St Ives. One girl I did as a schoolgirl now has 5 grandchildren.
Phew, where did the years go to.
February sees me graduating as an Individual Support Carer for Aged care and Disability. I will be working in this area a few days a week but TOP CUT us my first priority so it will be business as usual and I won't be going anywhere soon.
July will also see the 60th celebration anniversary of starting my indentured hairdressing apprenticeship in the UK.
Again, where have all the years gone.
When it was TOP CUTS 25th anniversary we had a big party that morphed into the wedding of Gren and I.
It was a fabulous day surrounded by the people I love best. My barbershop Chorus, who helped make up the 37 bridesmaids, friends, family and my beloved clients.

Back to normal in the New Year. To ensure an appointment to suit your schedule it's best that you book well in advance. There isn't much leeway fir last minute appointments. You can try, and sometimes you might just be lucky, but best to get in early.
