Let’s talk skin grazing and the causes!
Firstly, what is skin grazing? It’s when the epidermal layer of the skin lifts during waxing. This happens immediately once wax is removed and can often be mistaken for a burn.
Why can skin grazing occur? Here are some common reasons that skin can lift during waxing.
Retinol use
AHA, BHA, glycolic (exfoliating acids)
Accutane and other medicated skin treatments
Steroid creams
Blood thinners
Eczema and Rosacea
Recent sun exposure (sun burn)
Antibiotics
Recent skin/facial treatments
Blood thinners
Hormonal changes
Smoking
Skin will appear red, shinny, raw and weepy. It is best to avoid any harsh skin care products and makeup. Keep the area clean. Apply Bepanthen (or any antiseptic cream) to protect and treat the area.
It is important to advise your beautician of any of the above mentioned causes to prevent any skin lift.
