Proud to be supporting our national Goalball womens team Aussie Belles. This time last year I didn't know about this awesome sport. Goalball made its Paralympic debut in Toronto, Canada in 1976 and the women’s event was added at the 1984 Paralympic Games in New York, USA.

Goalball is a team sport played indoors by athletes with vision impairment. The object of the game is to roll the ball into the opponent’s goal while the opposing players try to block the ball with their bodies. Bells inside the ball help orientate the players by indicating the direction of the oncoming ball.

"I don't have time" is no longer an excuse in lockdowns but the struggle is real finding motivation to keep moving. With limited or no equipment and small areas to workout it can be disheartening.

Take time to really think about the muscles engaging and feel the contraction. Find items around the house that can be used to replicate resistance. Eg. Milk bottles, tin cans, buckets, fire wood, bricks, your children or fur children etc.

The Quadriceps are powerful muscles on the front of your leg. The nerves may be more sensitive as there is generally less fat stored on the quads so foam rolling can feel spicy. Nonetheless, lengthening out the muscle fibres is so beneficial for office workers and athletes alike. While foam rolling the quads in prone position, try flexing the knee at different angles.

You can use this exercise to warm up before exercise, instead of static hold, in a smooth movement reach the hand to opposite foot and then straighten back upright bringing the arm back above the head then repeat, stretching as far as your body can reach without pain. Ideally each bend you will reach a little further each time.
