For the last 4 years, I’ve been running Magda Clinic here in Townsville, working 6 days a week to help my clients feel better, move better, recover from pain, and improve their quality of life.

Over the years, I’ve continued to improve my skills, study new techniques, invest in equipment, introduce new services, and consistently provide the best possible care for my clients.

But recently I realised… I actually have a silent business partner.

Meet Tony.

He works at the reception desk and accepts around 47% of what many small business owners earn before we even have a chance to enjoy the results of our hard work.

GST.
Income tax.
Superannuation.
Insurance.
Compliance costs.
Merchant fees.
Registrations.
Paperwork.
Endless red tape.
Rising electricity costs.
Rent increases.
Supplier increases.

He doesn’t massage.
He doesn’t answer late-night client messages.
He doesn’t stay back after hours cleaning the clinic.
He doesn’t spend weekends studying new treatments.
He doesn’t deal with cancellations, inflation, stress, or the pressure of running a small business in 2026.

To be honest, I’m not really sure what he’s doing here, whether he knows anything about remedial massage, or how exactly he’s helping my business grow and thrive… but somehow he’s always sitting at the reception desk ready to accept a large share of every payment that comes in. 😅

This post is not about attacking anyone personally or promoting politics. It’s simply the reality many small business owners across Australia are feeling right now.

Running a small business has become harder every single year, and many people outside of business don’t realise how much pressure happens behind the scenes just to keep the doors open.
