IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light, works by emitting broad spectrum light that targets specific chromophores in the skin. (In simple terms, it seeks out what does not belong and breaks it down.) Melanin in the skin absorbs the light energy, making IPL highly effective for pigmentation, sun spots, and sun damage. Haemoglobin in blood vessels absorbs it too, which is why IPL is also used to treat redness, visible capillaries, and concerns like rosacea. Research also points to IPL stimulating collagen production as a secondary benefit, supporting overall skin texture and tone over time.
