🇦🇺 WWII uncovered: Honouring Private Herbert Escreet of the 2/5th Australian Infantry Battalion

Today we honour Private Herbert Escreet, of Carrajung Victoria, who served with the 2/5th Battalion, Australian 6th Division. Herbert is pictured catching his breath during a halt on a track in the Mubo area during the New Guinea Campaign on August 3, 1943.

Private Herbert Escreet was awarded the Military Medal for valor.

Next month, on 18 August, we honour all Australians who served in the Vietnam War. For over a decade, more than 60,000 Australians served in the war including almost 19,000 national servicemen.

This year, Vietnam Veterans’ Day also marks the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, where Australians, outnumbered 10 to one, fought with courage and determination.

There are many ways commemoration is observed – it is a deeply personal choice for Australians.
