One of the biggest things I've learned in my first year of running a business is that it doesn't always look the way you expect it to.
When I first started, I had high expectations for myself. I felt like I needed to do all the things to make my business successful.
Post consistently.
Try different marketing.
Say yes to opportunities.
Keep growing.
Keep improving.
Always be doing something.
And while I've definitely learned a lot from trying different things, I've also learned that I don't have to do everything just because someone else says it's what a successful business should look like.
I think the biggest lesson has been learning to trust myself.
To figure out what feels right for me, what fits the kind of business I want to build, and what allows me to genuinely enjoy the work I'm doing.
I've learned that being true to myself matters more than trying to fit into someone else's idea of what my business should be.
I'm still learning. I'm still figuring things out. And I'm sure year two will bring plenty more lessons.
But I'm going into it with a much clearer idea of who I am, how I want to work, and the kind of experience I want to create for the people who come through my door.
And honestly, I think that's a pretty good place to be one year in ๐

One year ๐
Today marks one year since I opened the doors to Telia Mills โ Remedial Massage.
There have been a lot of lessons, challenges, little wins and plenty of moments where I've had to figure things out as I went.
But most importantly, there have been the people who have trusted me with their care, returned for another appointment, recommended me to someone else, left a review, or simply supported my little business along the way.
I'm incredibly grateful that one year later, I'm still here doing something I'm genuinely proud of.
Thank you for being part of my first year.
Here's to year two ๐ฟ

Feeling like you've got a knot of tension that just won't let go?
Cupping can be a great addition to a massage when you're feeling particularly tight or restricted.
The cups may look atrocious, though they can be a gentle way to release tension especially if you're feeling particularly tender or unable to tolerate pressure.
Sometimes a little extra help is exactly what your body needs ๐
Have you tried cupping before?

Sometimes progress isn't dramatic
It's not always:
โI walked out completely pain-free!โ
Sometimes it's:
โI could turn my head a little further today.โ
โMy shoulders didn't feel as heavy.โ
โI didn't notice my headache as much this week.โ
โI slept better.โ
โI realised I wasn't clenching my jaw.โ
Those little changes matter.
Remedial massage isn't about promising a miracle cure.
It's about working with your body, paying attention to what's changing and adjusting treatment as we go.
And honestly?
I think those small wins are some of the best parts of my job ๐

Have you ever had a massage and thought, "oh wow...I was holding more tension then I realised"? ๐
It's actually quite common for people to be surprised by how much tension they're carrying without really noticing it.
Our bodies can gradually build up tension without it necessarily affecting our day-to-day life or feeling particularly uncomfortable.
That is, until we start noticing it.
Often, the discomfort comes first, and then we start thinking about what we can do about it. ๐
Sometimes your body has been giving you little hints for a while, you just don't notice them until they're a little harder to ignore.

For me, looking after my body isn't just about getting a massage.
I need to keep up my strength so my body has the capacity to handle what I ask of it.
I also find that working on my mobility helps me feel looser, more comfortable and supported in my movement.
They're different things, but they work together.
And yesโฆ do I still need a massage? Absolutely ๐
But I don't expect massage to do all the work.
The strength and mobility work, I do in between appointments helps me look after my body day to day, while massage gives me a helping hand when I need it.
It's all about giving your body the different things it needs to move and function well ๐

As the weather warms up, it suddenly feels like the perfect time to tackle all those jobs around the house and garden ๐ฑโ๏ธ
And while it can feel amazing to see everything you've accomplished afterwards, your body might not feel quite as impressed! ๐
If you're spending the day gardening, cleaning, lifting or doing jobs you haven't done in a while, try breaking it up rather than doing everything in one hit.
Take regular breaks, change positions, have a drink, and give yourself a few minutes to gently stretch and move.
Your body might thank you for it the next day ๐

Sometimes there are unspoken words.
We all have our challenges and it doesn't matter how big or small, they all matter.
You matter.
If you have been thinking about asking someone if they're okay, either because you want too or you've noticed a difference, take the chance and ask (it doesn't just have to be on are you okay day!).
We're not alone, even if it does feel it at times ๐
This World Su***de Prevention Day, we're thinking of all those affected by su***de.
This yearโs theme, 'Changing the Narrative on Su***de', reminds us that the way we talk about su***de matters. When we replace silence with connection, stigma with understanding, and fear with compassion, we create space for people to feel heard and supported.
Today and any day, you can be there for those struggling, those living with loss, and those supporting others. A simple checkโin can be the start of a lifeโchanging conversation.
If you're going through a difficult time and need support, we encourage you to contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.

Movement is greatโฆ but is it always best to push through?
Sometimes movement is exactly what our bodies need. It can help ease discomfort, reduce tension and get things moving again.
But there are also times when movement is aggravating things.
If something continues to feel worse the more you do it, pushing through isn't necessarily going to make it better. Sometimes your body needs a little less movement, some rest, or a different approach.
Movement is important, but so is listening to your body.
You don't have to push through discomfort just because you've been told that movement is always the answer ๐
