Are you tired of damaged nails? or maybe you want your natural nails to stop breaking long enough to actually grow to a decent length! at the least you want healthy and happy nails!

Here are our seven tips to keep your nails looking amazing!

1 - Be Gentle on your nails! Your nails are delicate, so treat them that way. Avoid using metal tools under nails, as too much digging can cause the nail plate to separate from the skin (a condition called onycholysis), common for people over 50, says Dr. Stern. Cleaning with chemicals and washing dishes by hand can also weaken nails. Guard them by wearing rubber, vinyl, nitrile or plastic gloves, says New York City dermatologist Janet Prystowsky, M.D., Ph.D.

2 - Prioritize nail health over length. This one is pretty self explanatory! what you're looking for with healthy nails are Nail plates are a pinkish-white color, Cuticles are existent (so don't cut them!), Nails and white tips are even lengths, Prominent half-moon shaped white section (called the lunula) at nail base.

3 - Gently push cuticles back. We cannot stress this enough, BE GENTLE with your cuticles, they're there for a reason. The cuticle function is to protect new nails from bacteria when they grow out from the nail root so you do not want to cut them off! now there's two types of cuticle pushers you can use, there's metal cuticle pushers and wooden ones. they both do a great job, we do find that the metal ones can scrape the natural nail so again be gentle (they are very good if you have hard or sticky cuticles) wooden ones are a lot softer on your cuticles so we do recommend to start off with the wooden ones. fun fact, if you regularly push your cuticles back you will decrease your chances of getting those pesky hangnails!

4 - protect your natural nail with a base coat. now this one can be skipped but we do recommend just having a layer of basecoat on your natural nails to protect them from the elements of everyday life

5 - Use a cuticle oil. Cuticle oil has a number of great benefits that you probably weren't even aware of: It promotes healthy nail growth by supporting the nail matrix, It extends the life of nail polish and gel polish (shellac), It seals in moisture to keep the cuticle area and nail plate soft and flexible, It can prevent the nail and polish from becoming brittle and chipping, It shrinks and tightens the cuticle to prevent hangnails & flaking around the nail bed. Our absolute favorite is burts bees nail and cuticle cream!

6 - Moisturize! A moisturizer works to replenish the water content of the skin either by trapping moisture in the topmost layer of the skin or replenishing its water content to some degree. Moisturizing hands does reduce microbial shedding from the skin and is part of good hand hygiene, which will protect people from picking up viruses and reduce the likelihood of transmission. If you're using hard hand sanitizers you should always apply a good moisturizer after because the sanitizer will dry out your hands so fast
