📢 HERE WE GO AGAIN… PRICE INCREASE FROM 1ST OCTOBER

We really didn’t want to be writing another one of these, BUT unfortunately the cost of running a small business just keeps going up… and up… and up. 🙃

With the upcoming changes around card surcharges, businesses are once again being expected to absorb another cost — because apparently small businesses have endless pockets. 😂

Around 90% of our services are paid via EFTPOS, and while those little transaction fees might not look like much individually, across an entire year they add up to THOUSANDS of dollars.

So when we charge $200 for a service and it’s paid by card, we don’t actually receive the full $200. Multiply that by almost every transaction we process and it becomes a very real business expense.

We absolutely understand that our clients are dealing with rising costs too, which is why we don’t make these decisions lightly. But between wages, super, rent, products, electricity, insurance and every other expense that comes with keeping the doors open, we simply can’t absorb thousands more in fees without adjusting our pricing.

So yes… our prices will increase slightly from 1st October.

And this is also why you’ll hear small businesses say CASH IS KING 👑. There’s nothing sneaky about it — it’s simply the one payment method that doesn’t have a third party taking a percentage of the transaction. $200 paid means $200 received.

We’re not asking anyone to change how they pay — EFTPOS will absolutely still be available! We just want to be transparent about why these costs matter so much to small businesses.

Another government change, another expense for small business to somehow magically find room for. 🫠

A little reminder about our apprentice services 🤍

At Hair Shenanigans, we are incredibly proud of our apprentices and the talented hairdressers they are becoming.

Our apprentice services are significantly discounted for a reason — these appointments allow them to build their skills, confidence, timing and experience while being supported by our senior team.

When booking an apprentice, there needs to be an understanding that they are still learning. Services may take longer, they may need guidance, and some highly technical results may simply be outside their current level of experience.

Recently, we’ve had a few situations where expectations haven’t matched the service being booked — including requests that would be challenging even for an experienced hairdresser, while expecting them at an apprentice price.

If you choose to book with an apprentice, we hope you’re doing it for the right reasons. 🤍 You’re receiving a discounted service while also giving someone the opportunity to learn and grow.

We have zero tolerance for rudeness, excessive fussiness or unrealistic expectations towards our apprentices. That behaviour does the complete opposite of what we’re trying to achieve — building confident, talented hairdressers.

Our senior team will always guide and support them, and if your desired result requires more experience, we’ll recommend booking with a senior stylist at the appropriate price.

The pressure was on… but this is exactly why I LOVE what I do. When a client trusts you completely, it’s such a compliment. 🤎

We said goodbye to the bright blonde and created this beautiful lived-in bronde that adds depth, shine and is so much lower maintenance while still feeling fresh and bright. ✨
