Doing nails is more than a creative activity, it’s a chance for students to build confidence, practise fine motor skills, and express their individuality in a calm, supportive space.
Nail sessions encourage focus, positive social interaction, and pride in personal achievement, while also introducing vocational skills that can spark interest in future training or employment.
We have loved having Summer join us the last couple of days to support our nail courses 💅

Students have been exploring colour theory through hands on painting activities that encourage creativity and experimentation. By mixing paints and working with different tones, shades, and contrasts, our students have developed a practical understanding of how colour works and how it can be applied within hair and beauty.
Using paints has also been highly therapeutic, giving students a calm, expressive outlet that supports wellbeing, builds confidence, and encourages focus while allowing them to engage positively with their learning.
Celebrating that end-of-the-week feeling after a week of learning and effort.

These are a few things I wish someone had told me when school felt heavy, frustrating, or pointless.
Maybe you needed to hear them too.

These creative sessions gave students the chance to build friendships, feel comfortable around one another, and grow in confidence without the pressure of formal learning.
We got creative with our teens by making Christmas cards, sharing ideas, laughing together, and enjoying a relaxed, positive atmosphere. These creative sessions gave students the chance to build friendships, feel comfortable around one another, and grow in confidence without the pressure of formal learning.
Activities like this play an important role in supporting students in the hair and beauty sector, working creatively, students develop fine motor skills, attention to detail, communication, and teamwork. Also giving them the opportunity to practice the kind of skills employers look, resulting in working well with others, being creative, taking pride in their work, and managing tasks independently.
Not to mention the joy on all the parents faces when they got a hand made card from their teenager 🥹

Why do we have Safeguarding Materials in our Alternative Provision
1. Raises Awareness
Displaying safeguarding information helps students understand what safeguarding is, who to talk to and what support is available. Many young people in AP settings may have had negative past experiences with education or authority, so visible, friendly reminders reinforce that support is there for them.
2. Promotes Openness and Trust
Visible safeguarding displays send a strong message that staff are approachable and care about students’ wellbeing. It encourages open conversations about worries, safety, or personal issues, helping to build trust between staff and learners.
3. Empowers Students
When students know who the safeguarding team are and how to reach them, they’re more likely to speak up early if they or a friend are at risk. This promotes self-advocacy and personal responsibility for safety.
Some students may feel anxious, isolated, or mistrustful of adults. Seeing friendly faces, clear messages and accessible language on display helps them feel seen, safe and included.

This term our students have been learning the art of barbering.
This incredible hair cut was carried out by one of our year 11 lads.
This haircut is just one example of what happens when talent meets the right support.
Thanks to our amazing barbering tutor, Rio ✂️
