As the Australian Council points out, in 2007/08 less than 200 Australian musicians and composers earned over $100,000 from their art, and the median income was only $7,200. Granted the data is 7 years old, but unless there’s some magical streaming service that’s paying artists more now than they did when CD sales were still a thing, that’s still a few hundred thousand short.

Something I get asked all the time is.

"How much as a musician should I be getting paid?"

Depending on the musician and taking into account the Australian Government now see's food, drinks and accommodation as official tender
this is the minimum wage guide line set for you as a Musician/artist.

I do stress this is minimum wage guys and I know your a hard working Ninja who kicks ass on stage. This is a guide to take into account when you are booking your next gigs.
