Sunseeker in the Community – Past Month Wrap Up ☀️

It’s been a big month for our little natural sunscreen brand here in Yeppoon – and we’re stoked to be out in the community, making waves (and slapping on SPF while we’re at it). Here’s what we’ve been up to 👇

🧴 200 units donated to the Cheeky Cheerleaders Cancer Council fundraiser – helping raise a massive $30,000 for skin cancer research. Their biggest year ever and we’re so proud to have been part of it!

🏃‍♀️ We set up at the Yeppoon Running Festival to cheer on runners from all over Australia. Not only did we supply the sunscreen station (because marathons + QLD sun = crispy), we also donated 3 lucky door prizes and stayed to clap in the final marathon runner. Legends, every one of you.

🧊 At the Chill for Change fundraiser for Daffodil Day at Sauna & Chill Yeppoon, our director Gracy braved 2°C ice water for 10 minutes and 6 seconds. She was narrowly beaten by the mayor… but he was fully clothed, so let’s be honest—she still wins 😏

She also managed to sneak in a chat with the mayor (in the sauna) about body & reef safe sunscreen and how chemical sunscreens are affecting the reef, in spots like Great Keppel Island. Fingers crossed we sparked a local convo about protecting our reefs from the inside out 🌊.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is currently investigating several chemical UV filters commonly used in Aussie sunscreens for potential risks to human health and the environment.

On the list?
🔸 Oxybenzone
🔸 Octinoxate
🔸 Octocrylene
🔸 Homosalate (yep, this one’s in many)
… and others.

These filters can absorb into the bloodstream, have shown up in breast milk, urine, and blood, and are being linked to issues like hormone disruption, cell damage, and reef degradation 🌊

Homosalate, in particular, is still widely used — even though recent data has flagged concerns over its safety at the levels currently allowed in sunscreens globally.

At Sunseeker, we play it safe. We only use non-nano zinc oxide — a physical UV blocker that stays on the surface of your skin, protects instantly, and won’t mess with your body or the reef 💁‍♀️

Because sunscreen should protect you — not make you question what’s sinking into your skin.
