Meet Our Global Mentor-
Dr. George Biswas
Academic • Researcher • Educator • Endurance Athlete

Dr. George Biswas is an accomplished academic, researcher, educator, mentor, and endurance athlete, currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geology & Convener, Central Sports Board at Presidency University, Kolkata, India. He earned his PhD in Geology through the Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research (AcSIR), with his doctoral research carried out at the CSIR–National Geophysical Research Institute (CSIR-NGRI), Hyderabad, one of India’s premier research institutions in Earth Sciences.

He has also delivered invited lectures, research talks, and academic presentations at various national and international platforms. Dr. Biswas has received several prestigious academic honours and recognitions for his contributions to science and research. Among these, he was awarded the AcSIR Best PhD Thesis Award 2023 in Physical Sciences and the excellent presentation for Dr. S. K. Ghosh Memorial Young Scientist Award 2025. He is also a Life Fellow of the Indian Social Science Academy (FISSA) and is associated with several distinguished national and international scientific and professional organisations.

Known in the endurance community as “GEORGE INDIA,” he is an accomplished marathoner and endurance athlete who continuously challenges the limits of physical and mental resilience. Among his most remarkable sporting achievements is the successful completion of a 100-km Border Ultra Marathon, which also marked his 100th running event—a memorable milestone symbolising extraordinary perseverance, discipline, consistency, and determination.

Over the years, his participation in running, cycling, athletics, endurance events, and other sporting activities has brought him numerous achievements and recognitions. He has earned an impressive 102 medals across different sporting and endurance events, making sport an equally meaningful dimension of his life and identity.

For Dr. Biswas, academics and endurance sport are not separate journeys. Both demand the same fundamental qualities: discipline, patience, resilience, consistency, courage, and the willingness to continue when the path becomes difficult. These values have shaped both his scientific career and his life as an endurance athlete.

With his unique combination of academic excellence, scientific innovation, leadership, mentorship, social engagement, and sporting achievement, Dr. George Biswas represents a generation of educators who believe that excellence cannot be confined to the classroom or laboratory.

It is therefore a matter of great pleasure, privilege, and honour to welcome Dr. George Biswas as the Our Global Mentor for this occasion. His presence embodies the spirit of knowledge, perseverance, leadership, resilience, and global collaboration, and we are delighted to have him associated with this distinguished initiative.
