He had one of those careers most people spend their whole life building. Creative strategy director for one of the world's biggest brands. Then, at 50, Tom Hidvégi walked away to become a perfumer.

We fully relate to that brave pivot as we did something similar ourselves when we started Smell Stories. Maybe that's why we felt the connection so immediately.

Tom chose perfumery because it's a nonverbal profession. As he puts it: "I can't fully express what I want to show, so I borrow the power of perfume to have a perfect day." He learned the technical basics, then abandoned the sheet music and started composing freely, embroidering molecules the way a musician plays by ear.

That word (embroidering) is no coincidence. Brodēon takes its name from embroidery: the art of threading something intricate and intentional into one composition, stitch by stitch. That's exactly how Tom builds a fragrance.

Two years. Four fragrances. Each one with a very personal meaning. What we love most: he cares deeply about them, but he’s not protective. He wants you to play. Layer Ruméa with Cuiré, for instance, and you get something entirely new: metallic coconut and aged rum colliding with saffron-laced leather and sunlit fruit. A warm-cold paradox. Flickering gold on skin. Danger beneath elegance.

Meet the wild Tulipa Sylvestris: a vibrant yellow tulip that fills the air with it's spicy, honeyed scent.

A favourite of landscape and garden designer Ronald van der Hilst, who invited olfactive artist Laura de Coninck to capture that fleeting scent in a bottle. The result: Hortus Conclusus Tulipa, a perfume that smells like a secret garden in spring.

No plans this weekend? In Antwerp, Ronald opens the gates of his private garden. You can wander through his unique tulip collection and even take home tulip bulbs ready to bloom.

Ours are already flowering. And yes, they smell beautiful.
