✨ Meet Cosette. ✨

I’d like to introduce you to the newest member of my family: Cosette, a little English Cocker Spaniel who has already brought so much joy into my life.

Some of you may wonder why I chose the name Cosette. She is named after the little girl from Les Misérables—a symbol of resilience, hope, and the possibility of healing after adversity. It felt like a meaningful name for the journey we are about to begin together.

For several years, I have been reflecting on the possibility of integrating a dog into my clinical practice.

Beyond companionship, research suggests that the presence of a calm and well-adjusted dog may help create a greater sense of safety, reduce anxiety, support emotional regulation, and facilitate therapeutic engagement for some individuals. Of course, a dog never replaces the therapeutic work itself—it simply has the potential to enrich the therapeutic environment.

At this stage, this is simply a project.

Cosette is first and foremost a puppy. Over the coming months, she will learn, explore, grow, and we’ll discover whether she naturally possesses the temperament that such a role requires: calmness, emotional stability, curiosity, gentleness, and ease around people.

If she does, she may eventually accompany me during certain therapy sessions where her presence could be beneficial. If not, she will still have the most important role of all: being a beloved member of our family.

Whatever the outcome, I’m excited to share this journey with you.

Meet Cosette! 🐾

We are delighted to introduce the newest (and tiniest!) member of our practice: Cosette, a young English Cocker Spaniel.

Cosette has just begun her journey and is currently discovering the world at her own pace. If everything goes well, she may one day accompany Eleonora Viance Petraki, Clinical Psychologist, during selected therapy sessions as a co-therapist, offering a calm and reassuring presence to patients who choose to have her there.

Research suggests that, for some individuals, the presence of a dog can help reduce stress, foster a sense of safety, and facilitate the therapeutic process. While Cosette is not part of the therapy itself, she may become a gentle source of comfort and emotional support during sessions with Eleonora.

As she is still a puppy, Cosette’s well-being always comes first. She will only attend sessions when she feels comfortable, and every step of her training will respect her pace, her needs, and her consent. Likewise, her presence will always be optional and discussed in advance with patients.

We are excited to follow Cosette’s journey and look forward to seeing her grow into her future role alongside Eleonora. 💙🐶
