Our jobs as cosmetic tattooers is to enhance what exists. The most fundamental version of SMP is giving back what the client lost - pure Folicule replication. To me, this is the purest form of SMP.
However , the art has evolved. It’s now more about creating hyper realistic work. Creating depth, texture , volume . It’s not just ‘dots’.
For me the most important thing is being able to replicate what the client naturally has , and then enhancing that.
To do this , color matching and creating texture is absolutely necessary . These components must also age well.
In this case , the client doesn’t completely shave his head , he’s not comfortable with that at all. I had to create texture . I do this by placing my impressions in a way that flows with the natural growth , and then I layer it over sessions to get the perfect level of color saturation. Also the color must be chosen perfectly , as this is a dance between follicle replication and small growth .
This is where mastering color theory becomes a game changer . The ability to create perfect matches but also to be able to play with different tones to create the ultimate realism .
This client has a lot of existing hair , so anything other then a perfect match would be obvious .
We recreated his hairline and added his normal density back, with a little extra . He had a failed hair transplant .
Notice the color and texture matches perfectly and the transitions from natural hair to SMP are flawless .
You just can’t get these types of results using a single carbon black with dilution .
