Sometimes you just gotta get it done! Wayyyy too hot in the salon. Why didn’t I wait a day until the AC was up and running , , ,

Hairstylist work in the strangest nervous system professions.
What others see: creativity, social, beauty focused, fun….. but physiologically?
It can behave more like: hospitality, caregiving, sales, performance, emotional labor…, all stacked together.
A stylists nervous system is on all day.
Constantly watching the clock, reading emotions, managing energy, solving problems, performing socially, monitoring appearance, people pleasing, and handling expectations.
Even though we love our clients, our bodies never go fully in to rest mode.
An average salon day looks like:
Caffeine first
Little protein
Standing for hours
Long gaps without food
Snacking between clients
Exhaustion at night.
Then:
Sugar
Takeout
Doom scrolling
Repeat
Over time, the body adapts to survival mode.
Many hairstylists normalize symptoms of chronic stress adaptation.
Belly fat
Water retention
Jaw tension
Sleep issues
Anxiety
Wake up exhausted
Needing caffeine to function
Feeling wired but tired at night.
But there is more. The emotional labor is enormous.
Many stylist become
Therapist
Confidante
Grief witness
Marriage counselor
Hype woman
Mediator
For multiple people every day.
Standing all day is not the same as intentional movement.
Inflamed, dehydration, stress and exhaustion.
Especially when combined with inconsistent meals, lack of recovery and poor footwear.
Hairstylists, listen to me.
You don’t need more discipline.
You need:
Protein
Minerals
Blood sugar stability
Muscle support
Better boundaries
Nervous system safety.
Your body isn’t betraying you, it’s adapting to the environment you’ve been living in for years.
This conversation is important. Hairstylists are one of the hardest working, most emotionally intelligent people.
Many are silently running on stress while calling it normal.
This is not normal.
Take the time and prioritize your health to help others be healthy too.
