A full head of foils, start to finish.
Foiling is a sectioning technique. Thin strands get woven out, a foil slides underneath, lightener goes on, and the foil folds to hold the heat and keep it off the rest of the hair.
What makes it look expensive is placement. Where the weave sits, how clean the sections are, whether every strand is saturated evenly. That is the part that takes 1,500 hours to get right, and it is why colour done properly holds its tone for weeks instead of going brassy in days.
This is a Hairdressing student, supervised, on a paying client.

The trades are built for career changers — full retraining takes months rather than years, and the skills go straight into paid work. Nail Technology is 400 hours. Esthetics is 800. Hairdressing is 1500. Medical Esthetics & Laser is 1060.
Funding is available through StudentAid BC, an RESP, a line of credit, or monthly self-pay.

Beauty programs are built to take complete beginners and train them from the ground up, one skill at a time. The work is hands-on rather than academic — most of your day is spent practising technique by hand.
It is demanding the way any trade is demanding. But the structure is built so that anyone willing to show up and practise can get through it.

Does laser hair removal actually last? Here is the honest answer 🔬
It gives permanent hair reduction, not total removal.
The light targets pigment in the follicle, so hair grows back finer, lighter and slower across a series of sessions. It works best on coarse, darker hair. Results build over several sessions spaced weeks apart, with the occasional touch-up after that.
Anyone promising permanent removal in one session is overselling it.

You build the full esthetics foundation first, because you cannot operate a device safely without understanding the skin underneath it. Then you move into IPL, laser hair removal, skin tightening, radio frequency and laser tattoo removal.

What does a laser technician actually do? 🔬
In Canada, laser hair removal, IPL and skin-tightening treatments are performed by certified medical estheticians — not general beauty technicians.
The path starts with an esthetics foundation, then advances into medical laser training: device safety, skin analysis, treatment protocols, and the operation of IPL, laser hair removal, skin tightening, radio frequency and laser tattoo removal.
That combination is what qualifies graduates to work in medi-spas and laser clinics.
