A little late to massage therapy awareness week but here's a post by the association
Muscle and joint pain, especially persistent pain, is common in seniors. It can be caused by osteoarthritis or other chronic conditions, but also can be caused by injury or overuse, or may have no known cause. If you’re experiencing aches and pains as you age, your RMT can help you find relief and get you back to activities you enjoyed when you were younger.
This week, share how your RMT got you back to the activities you enjoyed when you were younger.

Over the past year we've seen an increase in the volume of mentions in the news about mental health and it's importance in staying at our best.
This is a great article from B.C. that written for RMTs, but it has some wonderful information for patients as well. It's about how to recognize signs of depression so the RMT can confidently say to a patient "I think there's something meaningful here and it's important that you talk to your doctor about this."
Mental health isn't something typically discussed, and how to manage it is definitely something that isn't taught in our education system. It is important for us to learn more so we can be at our best for our family, friends, and co-workers.

Hello!
The province is going into a lockdown starting Dec 26.
Because massage therapy is a health care profession, I am permitted to stay open for business.
As usual, appointments are booked spaced apart and the same protocols regarding masks and hygiene are in effect.
Remember, stay home, wash your hands, wear a mask, and be vigilant. We'll get through this together.

This is great advice:

Since April the biggest two messages have been to stay home and limit all interactions. Once we were able to return to some semblance of normal, our interactions with others have increased. Ordinarily this wouldn't be a problem, but with the 2nd wave being confirmed and cases are still rising, it's obvious that we need to do more than we have been.
Advice like this is just what we need to make adjustments because it give us all a clear idea on how we can do more.
So what how can we remove 25% of our interactions from our day or week? Start with a list of the usual things that you need to do that has interactions with people, such as groceries and going to the pharmacy, and then find a way to do 1 out of every 4 of them in a way that doesn't involve interactions.
For example, instead of going into the grocery store where you're surrounded by people outside of your bubble, try using a method that reduces the time spent there. More and more stores are doing on-line ordering with curb-side pick up. Give Instacart a try, which is a service where you submit a grocery list and someone gathers them, and delivers it to your house.
We're all in this together. Stay safe, stay vigilant; we'll get through this.

As some of you know, last week the Ontario Chief Medical Officer announced that all regulated health care professions can now open.
The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario also recently released their final guidelines for how RMTs are to operate their business. These guidelines include multiple screenings, increased cleaning and disinfection, increased charting and documentation, plus changes to the physical space.
The Registered Massage Therapists' Association of Ontario has put together a nice infographic and blog post detailing some of the changes that you can expect to see.

"One study assessing the cause of chronic pain reported that 22.5% of chronic pain was attributed to surgery."
This report supported the use of Massage Therapy(MT) for pre- and post-operative patients.
Receiving MT before a surgery can help manage the patient's anxiety and painful symptoms to help the procedure go smoothly. For after the operation MT is also utilized by many to help scars heal well, minimize the effect of scars on other structures, reduce time away from work or daily activities, and help manage any residual pain.
It's recommended to begin treatment as soon as possible to prevent any symptoms from becoming a chronic issue.
