Hey! It's me!

It's been a hot minute since I've been active here. Like.. a year a half… 🙈

Truth be told.. I wasn't happy where I was in my career anymore. What I was doing day in and day out was feeling stagnant. My ability to grow where I was came to an end. My drive and determination to go above and beyond was depleting. I began just doing the basics of my job. I stopped caring about all the extras that come along with this career like promoting myself on this social media page.

So with that! My life has dramatically changed in that year and a half. For those who don't know, since I have been on here last, I left my job of 11 years, had a baby, and started up my own salon here in historic downtown Bowmanville with my husband called Salon Hue.

We opened the doors of Hue December 15th 2023. I am back behind the chair full-time and welcoming both new and old faces to my chair!

I feel so refreshed and motivated again. I absolutely love what I do and who I have the honor of working with daily. I can't wait to be more present here again and to pick back up where I left off! 🩷

Last night I announced my departure from working at Wicked Hair Salon after 11 incredible years. 🩷

I still remember the first day I walked into Wicked for my interview and knew right away it was somewhere I wanted to work. At the time, I was a super shy 24 year old not overly sure who she was yet, but knew I had a serious love and passion and hair and making others feel good.

At the end of my interview, Pauline told me she would love to have me join her team. I was thrilled. My shy, calm, sensitive and quiet nature was always overlooked by what I knew I had to offer deep inside. I always say Pauline took a chance with me. She looked past those things and gave me a shot.

From my first day of work until my last day, I have enjoyed every day spent at Wicked. Not only did I get to do what I love every day, but I got to do it alongside a team of women who loved and supported each other. They became like family to me. Wicked became a second home for me.

I feel I "blossomed" during my time spent working at Wicked. Not only as a stylist, but as a person. I have spent a lot of time working on myself over the last decade, pushing myself out of my comfort zone, challenging myself, and growing myself - both professionally and personally.

The support and coaching from Pauline is something I will forever be thankful for. It doesn't go unnoticed. I truly don't feel I would be where I am today without the opportunity I was given at Wicked.

Being in a comfort zone, worrying of fears and having doubts, without change, is an easy place to stay. I always told people I would stay at Wicked until the day I die because that's how happy I was working there. But as I have grown, I have realized over the last few years that I am ready for more and the next step in my journey.

[ Blonde Specialist ] 🌸

To be able to confidently that you "specialize" in something isn't always the easiest. Am I right? Or is it just me?

It's taken me 15 years of doing this almost every single day and working on my inner self, my own confidence and skill to be able to say I specialize in blondes without a worry of coming off as cocky or a fear of judgment from others on whether or not they agree.

I have a huge passion for working with blonde hair. Getting my clients to their hair goals is something I can sometimes make happen in one shot, and other times it's going to take multiple visits.

Keeping the integrity and health of the hair while bringing my clients to the blonde side is super important to me.

A short textured Bob on fine hair gives the illusion you have more than than you do. 🖤

Majirel reds are a favourite. We used 1/2 6.0 + 1/2 6.6 with a pea size of 5n. You'd never know under that red are some very stubborn greys!

From the moment I decided back in highschool that I wanted to be a hairstylist, people looked down on it. People made and still make comments like,

"Oh so you just get to play with hair all day? "

"You'll never make money in hairstyling."

"You're better off working in your basement."

"There's hardly a point in working just to pay for daycare."

"Did you have to go to school for this?"

"I'm not making money in hair right now so I'm switching my career path."

" You're not worth what you charge."

🤍 But here's the thing, you can become successful in ANY profession by putting your 100% into that work.

If you're a stylist, stop selling yourself, your fellow hairstylists and this industry short. If you're a friend, family member, client, or acquaintance of a stylist, support them in their decision.

This is so much more than just playing with hair all day. In fact we joke that we are therapists because it gets heavy some days. It's showing up every day to push and better yourself from the last day. It's taking risks. It's being patient with yourself and clients while you find the right clientele for you.

Yes, it doesn't just happen overnight like some professions where you can start tomorrow and make X amount of dollars. Yes you need to work for it. YES you can make money and a decent living for yourself. YES you can still be a Mom and home with your kids and a successful stylist. YES there can be work life to personal life balance. NO you do not need to break your body and work 40+ hours a week to make a living for yourself. YES there are a million other routes in this industry you can take rather than just working behind the chair.

This profession is incredibly rewarding. You just need the right mindset, some positivity, patience, drive, and loving and supportive people around you.

It's an amazing thing to get to do what you love every day. Thank you to those who support me as a stylist and this industry as a whole. 🤍

Over the course of the last ten years, we've done almost every colour on Sam. I'm not kidding..

With her wedding approaching, we are keeping things on the natural side. We only did around a dozen balayage foils here. For fine hair like Sam's, that dozen can make a big difference without going overboard. 🖤

9/10 of my blonde clients, I don't tone.

My preferred way of working with my blondes is to let the lightener do its job. Like, really let it do its job.

This doesn't mean over processing, but lifting the hair to a pale blonde. Being patient. Waiting that extra 5-10 minutes if you still see gold. Protecting the hair with Metal Detox ALWAYS. Avoid toning. Follow with a purple shampoo then sealing the cuticle with a treatment for blondes. Sending client home with purple shampoo to use once a week.

We've been working each visit, at bringing Amanda's hair lighter and eliminating golden or brassy tones. I think we made it to our destination. 🖤

She's the prime example of what a blonde can look like with no toning and with some patience. There's absolutely no rules with hair and nothing wrong with toning, but this is my perspective and how my blondes like it done. 🖤

Kayleigh's hair has been a 2.5 year working progress. Her colour when she first started coming to me was all sorts of shades, short and brittle.

We were set back on achieving her hair goals due to the pandemic, but her last visit we finally got there. It's long. It's blonde. It's healthy. It's beautiful. 🤍

🖤 Steps:

• Sprayed on Metal Detox for protection.

• Full head of back to back weaves. Prelightened with L'Oreal Blonde Studio 7 and 20, vol to start. Bumped to 30 vol then 40 vol for the last couple of sections.

• Processed for 25 minutes.

• No toner. Shampooed with L'Oreal Chroma Creme purple after Metal Detox shampoo. Conditioned with Metal Detox Mask. 🖤

• Baby trim to keep those long locks healthy.
