As of March 21st, 2022 as per provincial mandates we are no longer requiring masks to be worn in the salon by either team members or guests. We care about your safety & comfort and recognize that some will want to continue wearing their mask. This choice is totally up to you, we happily respect your decision and ask that you do the same for our team! It's been a long road back here and some of our staff are excited to work maskless again.

Our salon will continue to adhere to safety standards of 6 feet distancing between stations, and thorough sanitization of tools & surfaces.

There are a few things you need to know before colouring your hair DARKER

1. If you plan on going blonde or doing any lightening service later on, it’s going to take time now that you have added artificial colour.

2. Your colour will fade due to the fact that your blonde is POROUS. It doesn’t hold colour quite the same as hair that has never been lightened before and therefore you will require some level of maintenance

3. Colouring over lightened hair doesn’t erase damage! Your hair will definitely look healthier and shinier, but you will still have to maintain and nourish your freshly coloured hair 💆🏻‍♀️

Our Story

We do hair with honesty, integrity and pure passion. We are inspired by fashion, the world and most importantly our clients.

Mexico is where this journey started. That’s all it took, one haircut in a barbershop in a different country that had the capacity to take only two clients at a time, appointments did not exist, and cerveza was the beverage of choice. The light bulb sparked, and Moda Salon became an inspiration that changed our lives for the better. Clients always ask, what was it about that one time at a barbershop in Mexico? Our answers have never changed, three words is all it takes, Simplicity, Detail and Family.

Following the game-changer haircut and style, Kristopher Donoghue spent the rest of his trip expressing his thoughts and dreams of owning his own salon and the positive impact he could have in the industry. That trip to Mexico was more than just a vacation, it was the beginning of a journey that still thrives today.

It all started with one phone call, that’s all it took. A hair salon became available. Let’s the business planning begin, we thought.

Trying to get approved for a business loan was not easy, no one believed we could do it. We thought our dreams were ending right before they had a chance to start. Thankfully, we had a real Ohana moment, family sticks together, our family was there for us.

Building something from the ground up is terrifying, especially when you think it already exists. The team came together, and the business planning was underway. We pulled sunrise to sunset days to make our vision come together. But of course, to get to every rainbow you have to go through a storm. The electrical was not up to code, the plumbing was not functioning the way we needed it to, the ceiling lights were hideous, and worst of all . . . money was tight! But we stuck to our guns, gave it our all and were able to open our doors in June 2010.

Our vision was to open a hair salon that was not only welcoming to you but to your family. The positive atmosphere became known to the community. To us, family is truly everything.

We started as a small team of 3, eager to build our clientele. The first year in anything is always the hardest, especially trying to navigate the do’s and don’ts of your own business. We learned how to communicate efficiently, work together, find balance, and most of all, be together as husband and wife and most of all business partners.

2017 is the year we decided to expand our family, baby D, we couldn’t have been more blessed with the direction our life was heading. Having a baby motivated us to want more and to do better. 2017 became what we thought 2014 should have been. We set up a consultation appointment with @brand_ambition, it was time to get professional help. Our colours were defined, we had a brand that meant something to us, and a message that we believed in.

Businesses come and go, but we weren’t ready for ours to go anyway. Our lease was up at our location in Courtice, ON. This was home to us; however, we knew the business was evolving and we needed more a new and bigger location. Moda Salon wasn’t the only thing growing. We continued to grow our family and bring baby number 2 into this world. We were aware of all the risks that could happen by changing locations, but it was our commitment to each other and our brand that get us through the opening of our new location in Bowmanville, ON.
