I was challenged by fellow content creator to participate in the deconstructed rainbow project in celebration of pride. However this year seems more like an alliance than a celebration. A chance to fight for black lives as it is thanks to black lives that we are able to celebrate pride to this day. So for every look I post representing a colour of the rainbow, I will follow with a post of black content creators and artists who inspire me on a daily basis. Because we Matter, and so do they 🌈 ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

Today marks the first day of pride month. The month of June was chosen to commemorate the Stonewall riots which happened in June 1969. The riots were protests by the gay community against a police raid, which feels all too familiar right now. It was a rebellion for freedom, a demonstration to be heard & seen after being forced into silence and hiding for so long. The fight is far from over as there are many who still live in fear of being disowned, discredited, bullied, and in many cases are high risk for su***de and murder. All this devastation for something they did not choose, for something natural. This month we commemorate those who fought these battles before us, and help remind those that scrutinize Pride for being a spectacle that IT’S 👏 NOT👏ABOUT👏YOU. It’s for everyone who is told from birth that they are a bad, dirty and disgusting person just for who they are attracted to. And for that reason, I am GRATEFUL to have the freedoms I do today and PROUD to be part of this colourful community who has fought for their place among society for far too long.

Here it is, beans. The last of my 2020 Mer-Monday looks! My “Sequin Siren” was definitely the hardest to put together, but I challenged myself and I was able to pull through all four Monday’s. Which I’ve been told has earned me a rest and a glass of vino 🍷 Hopefully next year I’ll take what I’ve learned and have a chance to step up my game. But until then, stay tuned because I have some FABULOUS plans for PRIDE month 🌈 Peace out, mersquad!

Did a version of Marceline the Vampire Queen from Adventure Time. With Pride coming up so quickly, it has me thinking about a lot of pop culture icons who inspire us to live our truths.
