I never realized how much of my connection to Vietnamese culture came through beauty and music.
As a kid, I just saw the hair, the makeup, the glamour, and my dad’s collection of cassette tapes. Looking back now, I realize there was so much more behind it.
What started as curiousity turned into a deeper appreciation for my family’s journey, my culture, and the generation that came before me.
It’s funny how the things you grew up around can teach you so much about who you are.
Also, apparently blue eyeshadow was a choice 😂
Lip tints have been making their way into so many of my bridal trial sessions lately and for good reason! 💋
I love using lip tints during trials because they give that soft, blurred, lived-in look while still being comfortable to wear throughout the day. Unlike traditional lipsticks, lip tints leave behind a beautiful stain on the lips, so even as the product wears away from eating, drinking, or chatting with your bridal party, you’re still left with a natural flush of colour rather than bare lips.
They’re perfect for brides who want something soft, effortless, and lower maintenance throughout the day. The fade is subtle and flattering, making touch-ups less noticeable while still keeping your lips looking fresh in photos.
Lately, I’ve been reaching for some favourites from and to create everything from soft peachy nudes to romantic pink tones that complement a variety of skin tones and bridal styles.

Which lip tint shade would you wear on your wedding day?
This is my take when it comes to prospective brides ghosting vendors. To be honest, I’m pretty indifferent about it these days.
I get it. You’re in deep planning mode, comparing vendors, looking at pricing, paying deposits for venues, coordinating timelines, and making what feels like a hundred decisions for one single day. Sometimes responding to another email just becomes one more thing on an already overwhelming to-do list.
Here’s my hot take: ghosting has become pretty normalized in the wedding industry, and I’ve come to realize it’s not always about me.
I do think we’ve lost a little bit of etiquette when it comes to communication. As vendors, we’re taking the time to answer inquiries, review your needs, and put together custom quotes. A simple “Thank you, but I’ve decided to go another direction” goes a long way.
Not because anyone owes me a booking, but because you never know what’s happening behind the scenes of a small business.
The positive side? I’ve learned that communication is one of the biggest indicators of whether we’re a good fit. If communication is difficult during the inquiry stage, it’s usually a sign that we’re probably not the right match for each other anyway!
When your bride says “it’s perfect”, you know you started off with a great wedding morning before walking down the aisle 😭🥹💗.

One of my favourite things about styled shoots is the freedom to create.
As bridal artists, we’re used to centering our brides. Their vision, their preferences, their comfort level, and the details that make them feel like themselves. That’s always the priority.
But styled shoots give us a chance to step outside of that and explore creativity in a different way. It’s an opportunity to experiment, tell a story, collaborate with other talented vendors, and create something purely for the love of artistry.
This shoot was especially fun because it allowed me to lean into inspiration, texture, and details without limitations. It’s a reminder that creativity is one of the reasons I fell in love with this industry in the first place.
And as a bonus, it was my first time visiting Barrie! ✨
A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this vision to life. I always leave styled shoots feeling inspired, energized, and excited for what’s next.

Brides, if your stylist is transparent with you about a recommendation, please know we’re not trying to steer you away from your vision.
We’re sharing our professional opinion based on experience, your hair type, your desired style, and the conditions of your wedding day.
Every hair texture is different. Every hair type reacts differently to humidity, heat, wind, movement, and wear throughout the day. What works beautifully on one bride may not necessarily wear the same way on another.
That’s why consultations and bridal previews matter. They give us the opportunity to discuss the reality of how a style may hold up and offer alternatives when needed.
At the end of the day, the decision is always yours. Our role is simply to provide guidance so you can make an informed choice.
A recommendation isn’t a restriction, it’s professional insight based on experience.

For a long time, it was just me.
One artist. One kit. One wedding at a time.
As demand grew, I had a choice: stay solo or build something bigger.
What I learned is that building a team isn’t just about taking on more weddings. It’s about creating a consistent experience, surrounding yourself with artists who share your values, and making sure every client feels cared for from inquiry to aisle.
Growing from a solo artist to a team has taught me a lot about leadership, communication, trust, and letting go of the idea that I have to do everything myself.
It’s not always easy, and there have definitely been lessons along the way. But seeing my team support bridal parties, grow in their artistry, and show up for one another reminds me why I started building in the first place.
Now we’re a team and if you are in need of a team that gets you and feel understood, you’re in the right place. Inquire in our bio link 🔗
Sometimes coming back from a large bridal party just hits you and you don’t even know it until you sit in your car
The moment I knew I wanted to do makeup and hair as a career didn’t happen right away.
I started freelancing 6 years ago, but it wasn’t until 3 years ago that I finally left a job where I was burnt out and dealing with a family emergency that changed my perspective on life.
I remember my mom telling me that my Ong Muoi (Grand Uncle #10) was sick, but I don’t think I truly understood how sick he was. It wasn’t until I saw a photo of him on Facebook. He had lost so much weight, looked almost unrecognizable, and all I kept hearing was how much he wanted to talk to me.
If I’m being honest, I was avoidant. I didn’t want to accept what was really happening.
When I learned that he was in the final stages of lung cancer, I think something in me shifted.
Everything I thought was important suddenly didn’t feel important anymore.
At the time, I was a store manager working long hours, constantly stressed and burnt out. Meanwhile, someone I loved was living the final months of his life, and I realized how much of my own life I was letting pass me by.
I wish I could say I courageously quit my job to pursue my dream full-time, but the truth is more complicated than that.
It took watching someone I love run out of time for me to realize just how short life really is.
My Ong Muoi used to ask my mom, “Where’s my daughter?” whenever he wanted to see me.
Three years later, I still carry those lessons with me.
Every bridal booking, every client, every artist on my team, every step of building Nguyen Artistry traces back to that moment.
This business exists because someone I loved reminded me that life is too short to spend it waiting.
