RMT Wanted for Evenings & Weekends – Bridgewater
I’m looking for a Registered Massage Therapist interested in working evenings and weekends in a spacious, well-lit treatment room in Bridgewater.
The room also functions as an art studio at times, giving the space a creative, relaxing feel. There may even be a very calm tortoise quietly hanging out in the corner.
The clinic is a well-maintained multidisciplinary building with access to a kitchen and laundry. The room is located on the second floor.
If you’re interested, send me a message for details.

Fun Fact:
Helping you relax during your massage treatment isn’t the main goal of your Massage Therapist.
If that was true the effect would be ruined as soon as you leave and someone cuts you off in traffic or annoys you at work.
The thing that brings you in for massage is the stress you feel in your body.. The thing is, you are always going to have stressors in your life. That’s normal. The reason you feel it in your body is because you are not processing stress as efficiently as you could.
The Massage Therapist will seek out the issues in your body that act as barriers to the processing of stress. Then, using various manual techniques, work to reduce the barriers so you will be more efficient at processing the stress in your life.
So after your massage, you will of course feel more relaxed, but after that initial relaxation is disturbed, you will still experience the benefits of deeper sleep and calmer feelings for weeks and weeks.

Your Body 101:
Pain:
“It’s all in your head”
Part 1 - the threshold.
Pain is your brains interpretation of an array of signals. So, it can only ever be in your head, and being in your head doesn’t mean it’s not real.
Your brain is constantly receiving signals from all over your body. The interpretation that you are experiencing pain depends on many different factors.
Your brain will ignore any input bellow a certain threshold.
For our example we will say your threshold is 50 on a scale of 1-100.
If the part of your brain that receives signals from your leg is receiving a signal of 40 your brain will ignore that and you will not feel leg pain.
…
Now if your brain is also receiving an underlying signal from something like full body inflammation (let’s say it’s a 15) , this signal is very low so your brain doesn’t tell you about it and you feel fine.
..
However….Your brain will add the 40 signal from your leg onto the 15 signal from your full body condition and because you are now above the threshold of 50 you will feel pain in your leg.
This is why living an active lifestyle (motion reduces inflammation) and eating a diet low in inflammation causing stuff like sugar can help with you pain levels.
There is soooo much more that influences pain, like the context of the pain and your emotional state.
The truth is it’s a confusing mess, even for people who study it.
So next time someone says “it’s all in your head” you can tell them:
“well, duh”
and relax because everyone’s experience with pain is different and nobody really knows what you are feeling but you.
Also, get a massage.

Your Body 101
Fascia:
You know about muscles and bones, but do you know what your fascia is?
Your fascia is a fibrous tissue, usually in the form of a sheath that encloses your muscles and other organs and holds your various bodily structures in place.
It is continuous throw out your body like a web that helps maintain your stucture.
Your fascia often experiences microscopic tears which are patched up with scar tissue. The scar tissue is less flexible and can stick to other structures like glue. This can lead to pain or changes in the way your body moves and functions.
The good news is that your fascia responds well to movement. When you challenge these restrictions and adhesions with movement, they usually disengage and adapt to the challenge. This is why it is important to maintain an active lifestyle.
Sometimes, with stubborn restrictions or adhesions in the fascia, you may require a little help. This is when you might want to see a Massage Therapist. Working the fascia is a big part of what they do.

And of course how massage therapy might figure in your healthcare.

Recent studies show that people who do not schedule an appointment with their Massage Therapist are at greater risk of not getting a massage.
