WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER CHEMICAL PEELS?

I have lots of clients who ask me what to expect after chemical peels and why the skin can become darker , inflamed and there can be more breakouts.

When you’re not comfortable with the way your skin feels or looks, it can be difficult to find a solution. Chemical peels are a professional resurfacing procedure that safely exfoliates damaged skin and enhances your natural appearance. Chemical peels are a fast, effective facial rejuvenation treatment that evens skin tone and reduces wrinkles and scars. If you are preparing to get a chemical peel, you should know that these treatments require some aftercare for best results and that they will have some temporary side effects that typically subside within 2 weeks. To help you prepare for your chemical peel, here is what you can anticipate and how to best care for your radiant skin in the weeks after your skin rejuvenation treatment.

❗️Redness, tingling, or burning may occur in the first several hours after the chemical peel.
❗️Dryness, irritation, or swelling may occur for the first several days after the chemical peel, but try not to scrub at the skin.
❗️Breakouts or a mild lightening or darkening of the skin may occur within the first week after the chemical peel.
How long does your skin purge after chemical peel?
10-14 days
Purging after a chemical peel can: Start as soon as a few days after a peel. Last as long as 10-14 days depending on your skin's normal cell turnover and renewal time frame, and then never return (a typical phase only lasts a few days).
❗️After the first week post-treatment, your side effects should start to subside.

Anticipate Peeling. As you can tell by the name, a chemical peel will generate some skin peeling, typically after about 3 to 5 days post-treatment. The peeling will resemble the way a sunburn peels and can be partially removed by gently cleaning the face. Try not to purposely peel any dead skin, as this can cause irritation and potentially infection.

1. Give Your Skin Proper Aftercare. You will likely want to discuss with your dermatologist how your skin care routine may need to change during the healing process and afterwards. In the first 24 hours after your chemical peel, you should avoid using any skin care products unless otherwise specified by your dermatologist. After 24 hours have passed, you can start gently cleansing your face with cool water and a gentle cleanser. Don’t use any exfoliants as they may irritate your skin and won’t serve much purpose, as a chemical peel is itself an exfoliant.

2. Avoid Makeup. For 1 to 2 weeks after the treatment try to avoid makeup as it may irritate the skin and inhibit healing.

3.Stay Hydrated. This means using moisturizer on your face and drinking plenty of water. 24 hours after your chemical peel, you should use a thick moisturizer at least twice a day to aid in the healing process. You should also drink lots of water to make sure your skin is hydrated from the inside out.

4. Wear Sunscreen. You should always wear sunscreen when you leave the house but it is absolutely crucial after a chemical peel. This cosmetic skin treatment will temporarily leave your skin more exposed to AVA and UVB rays and it will require more protection than usual. To help keep the sun off of your face, consider wearing a sun hat, scarf, or other covering. You’ll want to keep your face cool and not over-exert yourself for about 2 weeks after your skin rejuvenation treatment.

5. Have Multiple Treatments. Although you are able to get just one treatment and you will see some improvement from the initial session, multiple treatments will create the best results. 3 treatments are recommended, with 4 to 6 weeks in between each treatment to give the skin time to heal.

Colour correction ✅

Clients with old microblading or eyebrow tattoo, that has changed colour may require an eyebrow colour correction, followed by a powder brow coverup. This procedure is done by a shading technique of the eyebrows, using a permanent makeup machine. The process consists of two steps, first the machine deposits pigment that neautralizes the eyebrow colour and once this is done the second step, is to cover the eyebrow with a new powder brow.
