I seriously care about my clients so much, and so I also care when someone doesn't seem to be considerate of everyone else.

When an appointment is booked, that time is dedicated to you. No one—no matter how badly they want it—can book there anymore. Instead they have to wait, book a different day, and plan their schedule around that.

So to not respect the time that you requested be set aside for you, and think that maybe someone else will fill your spot, doesn't usually work out like that—it usually just means you use up twice the time.

And unfortunately not everyone understands that, which is why there need to be deterrents like cancellation policies.

HOWEVER!

Unforseeable circumstances and emergencies are a totally different story—which is why being the receptionist, stylist, and manager in my own business is so useful.

Because I get to see everything.

I see when someone shows patterns of disrespect, and when they don't. That means I have compassion when it's called for, and boundaries for everything else.

My policies have room for grace, but they also filter behaviours that don’t respect me or my other clients.

There's no treatment for split ends. Once your hair has literally come apart, nothing can put it back together again.

Those products that say they repair them? What they actually do is coat your hair in a sealant to make it seem like your problem has been fixed. But really, they're making it so much worse. Because having a coating on your hair prevents any real treatments or conditioners from being absorbed, and your hair gets more dry and brittle trapped inside.

If you've already been doing this, don't freak out, there's still hope. Just use a clarifying shampoo to remove the buildup and follow-up with either the K18 mask or Wella ultimate repair treatment. Then find yourself a hairdresser who does length-saving split-end trims. You may watch the linked video to see what that looks like ;)

Measurements are made up anyway, plus they make you nervous—make you doubt yourself.

Is it too much? Is it not enough?

Instead, I want us to focus on results.

What we're leaving behind is what really matters because it's what you'll actually be going home with.

It doesn't serve you to worry about rounding to the nearest inch—it's an arbitrary goalpost.

And why fit yourself into a box when the world already does that enough?

So when you just trust your gut, and throw out all social constructs, you might find that you feel so much more at peace with whatever happens next ;)

》Make sure that your sections line up at the top of your head
》When you're pulling the front section behind your ear make sure that it's exactly where you want it to sit, otherwise the tension will be off when you clip it and it won't look smooth
》If the clip isnt very secure, make sure youre putting it in going straight back, not up. And slide it right along your scalp so you're getting it as tight as possible

There are LOTS of reasons—and most of them aren't your fault.

Long hair is old. That means it has more cumulative damage from things like brushing, washing, and just everyday wear and tear.

Plus the ends of your hair—whether we're talking about the ones at the bottom or the ends of your regrowth—are more vulnerable to damage because the cuticle is weakest there.

But here's the real problem:

Most of your ends actually get missed during a classic haircut because they're too high to be removed without taking off significant length.

So any ends that have already started to split?

They keep splitting. And splitting... and splitting.
Until BAM! You end up with gnarly split ends, just like this one.

So if split ends are inevitable, what can you even do about them?

Learn how to recognize what they look like. Examine your hair regularly. But most importantly, when you start to notice that there are lots of them, become your own advocate and book a split-end trim with someone who is willing to work with you to keep your hair healthy AND long.

Because here's what I really want you to take away:

The biggest mistake you can make is trusting a hairdresser who tells you, matter-of-factly, that you need to come in every X weeks.

Because they can't actually know that. No one can.

There is no universal expiration date on your haircut—contrary to industry standard beliefs.

And getting a haircut while your hair is still healthy will not stop it from splitting. It will, however, stop it from growing fast. All while keeping your stylist busy at your expense.

Everyone's hair is different. So someone who is truly qualified to be trusted with your crown, and has your best interest at heart, should NEVER be giving you one-size-fits-all (and frankly, manipulative) advice about how often you "need" a haircut.

Your hair isn't on their schedule.
