Choppy layers aren't actually choppy, they're just styled. (Or naturally wavy/curly)

And when they are straightened they should blend—whether your hair is curly, straight, fine, or thick.

Why? Because layers only need to be cut evenly to blend. That's all it takes. That's the big secret. It's nothing fancy or special, just basic haircutting skills.

They don't need any texturizing, thinning shears, or a razor to blend—those are cheat methods that stylists who aren't skilled enough to blend without them sometimes use.

That's why properly blended layers work with styles that aren't "straight with lines," and by that I mean they work with all styles.

That's also why you aren't being picky or asking for too much if you want a haircut that you can wear any way you want. So don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

Warning ⚠️ Critical thinking required beyond this point.

Both chopping and dusting will end up cutting healthy hair as collateral while aiming for damaged ends. The DIFFERENCE is that a big chop cuts huge amounts of healthy hair while dusting only cuts the tips.

So when you want to grow your hair long or keep it long, it's pretty clear what the best option is.

Highly recommend going to a stylist that cares about the future of your hair, not just the current appointment.

It will save you money, headaches, and time.

You're welcome 😉🫶

*when you straighten it.

If your desired style is "straight with lines" then this post isnt for you.

Otherwise, all layers and hair types should be able to be straightened into nothing.

Why?

For layers to blend when straightened they only need to be cut evenly.

They don't need thinning shears.
They dont need a razor.

They just need to be cut with basic, apprentice-level skills.

That means that literally every layered haircut *should* be able to. Even if you're a curly girl who loves "choppy" layers. (The choppy part isn't because of actually having "choppy layers" it's from just having layers, any layers, with textured hair.)

Because if they don't, that means your stylist can't cut straight lines, and needs to go back to school.

You should not be charged salon prices for a haircut that a student could have done better.

But hey, if you like your stylist anyways, then good for you guys. The stylist-client bond is also important. However, you deserve to know you're being overcharged and scammed.
