🚨"Alarm Activated. Door Breached."
"Maran, cmon i think someone is breaking into the shop"
My younger brother and i rushed to the shop in our beige honda van at full speed past midnight, sweat dripping down my nose
They said this might happen here. But I didn't think it'd happen this fast. We just bought the shop only a few months back..
There it was.
Door shattered.
A million glass shards on the ground.
"Marvan! The cash box is missing!!!"
Being from Iraq, we didn't have much to live on. but now it felt like we were starting from zero again.
all the stores cash. months of work. gone like that.
I dropped to my knees.
For a second i thought "should i give up? maybe this is a bad sign.."
Red and blue lights flashed in the front rectangle of what was our door.
..
"Maran wake up!"
12 long hours passed. We stayed in the shop all night to clean and lost another thousand dollars to repair and clean the damage.
I needed a cigarette.
Being from Iraq, apprenticing from the worlds best in Syria, and doing barbering in Calgary over the past 15 years has taught me a lot of things.
I know there's good people and bad. Sick people and healthy. The ones that grow. the ones that die.
We're different. I know we my brother and I won't die from this. We will only come back stronger.
Thank you for the many people helping out so far. We're eternally grateful. 🙏🏼
