The Nail Lady
I have been a nail tech since 1995, trained in all esthetics, attending European Beauty School what feels like a life time ago.
Always trying to keep myself current learning new tricks and fun "must have" nail techniques. I love creating, visiting with my clients, making my clients feel better than they did when they walk in. The salon I currently work at is fabulous, filled with great gals who have passion for the craft they specialize in! A truly fabulous place to get a head to toe new look!

Do you know what’s on your nails?
If you are going to take the time to read any post of mine, THIS IS IT!
(Also the pictures are a tad graphic.)
PLEASE SHARE THIS INFORMATION!!!!
Yesterday I had a fabulous new client, who said that after going to her
“Corner store salon” for years she felt that something wasn’t right..
She felt her cuticles were inflamed, dry, sore and getting worse by the day. Her nails felt weird, thick, lifting…
I make a habit of never commenting on other peoples work so I just assured her we would fix her up. We had a lovely conversation, she was delightful, and after what turned into a very long appointment she left thrilled with the results.
Sadly her nails were, as she suspected, not good. 😞💅🏻😟
(For educational purposes I asked her if I could take pictures and share her story.)
Her cuticles were dry, inflamed, peeling and sore. When we got the product off, her natural nails were in horrible shape. The product was lifted, their was an odour and moisture had gotten underneath and her natural nails were rotting with gouges taken out of them.
(Sorry very graphic)
I have always felt that information is power, when we know better, we do better, so I decided to be forthcoming about what was actually going on with her nails.
The Salon she had been going to uses an illegal chemical called MMA
(Methyl Methacrylate)
A nail enhancement product that was banned in Canada in 2003 because of its toxic effects on your eyes, nose, throat, respiratory system, skin, and of course NAILS…
(prolonged use can cause permanent health issues)
Sadly if you don’t know what to look out for or what is being used you likely wouldn’t know the difference so A LOT of Salons still use this chemical, even though it is illegal.
You may ask yourself… why?
Why use a product that harms your client?
Their are a few answers
-it’s 1/3 the price(save $$) of good quality product
-it’s strong and holds on
-not everyone reacts immediately 😔
-sets much faster allowing the tech to work fast (time is $$)
Sadly products containing this chemical are still readily available at a few, less reputable nail supply stores, on line and at some big box stores.
Please… consider this:
-Your tech should be properly educated at a certified school! Being self taught or taught by a co-worker is not allowed.
-Your salon should be using good quality products in there original containers
(with ingredients)
Or ingredients should be available on request
-have a clean work area that has been disinfected.
-you should have your own files and buffers or new files(look for signs of wear and tear) and efile bits used should have been soaked in a sterilizing solution or a new sanding bit should be used.
-minimal if any cuticle clipping should be done to reduce chances of injury or infection
-hand sanitizers or hand washing is a must
