Pause Health is ONE 🧔

It’s hard to put into words what it has taken to get to this milestone. I started this practice while navigating my own hormonal journey, aka postpartum, which put so much into perspective for me.

What began as an idea to help address a gap I continue to see in healthcare, people trying to navigate hormonal and s*xual health concerns without adequate support, has become something incredibly meaningful to me.

I’ve met so many amazing people along the way. Thank you to my patients for trusting me with your stories and your care. Thank you to my clinical partners, who I’m so grateful to continue learning and growing with. And thank you to my family and friends for the endless support. I truly could not have done this without my community behind me.

While this photo captures the daily Pause Health team (aka who joins your appointments: myself, Olaf, and Sven), there are many people not pictured who are the backbone of this practice. So truly, thank you.

I can’t wait to see where year two takes us 🧔

Happy Mother’s Day to the incredible women I have the privilege of caring for, learning from, and working alongside every day. 🧔

To the mothers raising families, balancing careers, supporting others, navigating hormonal changes, carrying invisible mental loads, and still showing up with strength and resilience, you deserve to be celebrated today and every day.

Thank you for trusting me with your health, your stories, and your journeys. It’s an honour to support you through every stage of womanhood.

Wishing all the amazing moms a day filled with love, rest, appreciation, and care. 🌷

Look, I’m just as frustrated as you are about the estrogen patch shortage.

I don’t think there’s been a single day lately where I haven’t helped a patient try to navigate this challenge. And it really does suck when you’ve finally found a treatment that works for your symptoms — and a dose that makes you feel like yourself again — only to suddenly feel like you can’t access it anymore.

The good news is that there are options, and in most cases we can find a way to keep your hormone therapy stable while supply issues get sorted out.

Some strategies that may help:
• Switching to a different brand of patch that is still available
• Adjusting patch strengths or dosing when certain doses are out of stock
• In some cases, carefully cutting matrix patches (with guidance from your provider)
• Temporarily switching to another form of estrogen like a gel or oral tablet
• Requesting refills early so there’s time to adjust if needed
• Calling around to different pharmacies, as availability can vary

None of this should fall entirely on your shoulders to figure out! This requires planning and discussion with you and your provider. I know how stressful medication shortages can be, if you’re running into issues filling your prescription, reach out to your healthcare provider early so they can help find a solution that works for you.

Testosterone isn’t ā€œjust a s*x hormone,ā€ but it’s actually a powerful systemic hormone that affects nearly every system in your body from your muscles, bones, and metabolism, to your brain, mood, and energy levels.

Low testosterone isn’t just about libido or s*xual performance. It can be a warning sign for broader health issues. Paying attention to testosterone is much more than your s*xual health or building muscle at the gym, it truly impacts your health and quality of life.

The goal isn’t just a long life. It’s about making sure your lifespan = healthspan = s*xspan — living long, feeling strong, and maintaining your s*xual health. Your body is interconnected, and optimizing your testosterone is one piece of the puzzle.

GLP-1 medications get a bad rap — and a lot of that comes from misinformation, fear, and stigma rather than good education.

For anyone considering a GLP-1, currently on one, or prescribing them, this book is one of my go-to resources:
šŸ“˜ Waitlist to Weightless by , an endocrinologist specializing in obesity medicine.

It does an excellent job breaking down:
• who may benefit (and who may not)
• how these medications are meant to be used
• side effects & how to manage them
• dosing and titration conversations
• the importance of maintenance
• and how to approach GLP-1s in a sustainable, evidence-based way

GLP-1s are tools, not shortcuts — and when used thoughtfully, they can support real metabolic health.

Just like we don’t shame people for treating high blood pressure or diabetes, we need to stop attaching shame to evidence-based obesity treatment.

Let’s reduce the stigma and improve the conversation.

Men are less likely than women to see a doctor regularly. But when it comes to s*xual health, erectile dysfunction, might present as the first encounter with the healthcare system.
And what many don’t realize is that ED isn’t just a s*xual health issue. It can be an early warning sign of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, or metabolic syndrome. This is why it is so important to use this encounter as a chance to do a comprehensive health assessment and identify any underlying health concerns that might be contributing to the erectile dysfunction rather than just prescribing vi**ra or Cialis (yes these medications are important too and in the end can be part of the treatment plan but if you don’t do a deep dive into a patients health history presenting with ED then you are doing them a disservice)

ED can be much more than s*xual function, it’s about protecting your overall health. If you’re experiencing persistent ED, it’s worth a full check-up. Catching these issues early can make a huge difference for your health, longevity and s*xual function

🚨 Big news in women’s health!

The U.S. FDA has officially removed the black box warning from menopausal hormone therapy! A warning that’s been around for over 20 years and has caused a lot of unnecessary fear for both women and clinicians.

FDA Commissioner Dr. Marty Makary said:

ā€œWith the exception of antibiotics and vaccines, there may be no medication in the modern world that can improve the health outcomes of older women more than hormone therapy.ā€

This is huge. It acknowledges what the research has been showing: for many women, especially those starting around menopause, the benefits of hormone therapy can outweigh the risks.

Canada still has similar warnings in place, but because our systems are closely linked, this could spark conversations and review here too.

More research is still needed, but this is a step forward toward safe, evidence-based, individualized menopause care. 🧔

Canadian women spend 24% more time in poor health than men that means less time feeling well, less time in the workforce, and a $37 billion hit to our economy every year.

McKinsey’s new report breaks down why this gap exists:
1ļøāƒ£ The efficacy gap: medicine was built around male biology.
2ļøāƒ£ The care delivery gap: outdated, dismissive care, especially in menopause.
3ļøāƒ£ The data gap: ā€œnot enough studiesā€ can’t be an excuse to delay treatment.

It’s time we stop normalizing women feeling unwell and start investing in women’s health!

It’s scary how common this is šŸ‘»šŸ‘»

I hear from patients all the time about their symptoms being dismissed, brushed off, or explained away. Told ā€œyour labs are normal,ā€ ā€œjust take birth control,ā€ ā€œthat’s normal for a woman your age.ā€ The problem with these responses is that we are putting all women in one box, ignoring that everyone’s body, hormones, and experiences are unique. That kind of approach misses the opportunity for individualized care that allows patients to truly make an informed choice that works for them, their goals, their family, and their life!

Women deserve better.

As patients, we need to advocate for ourselves, ask questions, and remember we are the experts in our own health. And as providers, it’s our responsibility to meet patients where they are, with care that listens, addresses symptoms, and is evidence-informed.

So women, stop letting your health concerns be ghosted šŸ‘»
Your symptoms are valid, your experience is real and you deserve a provider that is willing to partner with you to find the right solution for YOU!
