Almost feels like yesterday when I started Permanent Beauty By Lili.
Ten years later, one thing I’ve learned is that discipline will take you places motivation never will.
I still remember my first PMU training. Every stroke felt unfamiliar, every procedure took longer than it should, and I questioned myself more times than I can count. But I knew that if I kept showing up, I would get better.
So I practiced. I invested in my education. I worked on models. I refined my technique one appointment at a time.
Success wasn’t built from one big moment. It came from the small things I did consistently, even when nobody was watching.
Now, after 10 years in this industry, I’m proud of how far I’ve come and even more grateful that I get to help other permanent makeup artists build the confidence and skills to create their own success.
Keep showing up. Your future clients will thank you for it.

If I had to start my PMU business from scratch, here’s exactly what I would do…👇
✨ Choose one specialty first. Whether it’s brows, lips, eyeliner, or paramedical tattooing, become known for one thing before trying to do everything. Master it, then expand.
✨ Keep your overhead low. Know your numbers. Your monthly expenses (rent, supplies, insurance, marketing, etc.) should ideally be covered with just 5–8 paying clients.
✨ Talk about your business. Tell your coworkers, friends, family, and neighbours. Word-of-mouth marketing is still FREE marketing, even if not everyone becomes a client.
✨ Protect your mindset. When you’re starting out, everyone will have an opinion. Unless they’ve built a business themselves, don’t let fear or negativity distract you. Celebrate the small wins they matter.
✨ Curate your social media intentionally. First impressions matter. Invest in good photos, professional headshots, and content that reflects the experience you want clients to have.
