Flat roots…
Knowing your curl type is interesting… but it’s not the most important thing.
Your curl pattern doesn’t tell you:
✨ how healthy your hair is
✨ how much moisture it needs
✨ how porous it is
✨ how to style it
✨ which products will actually work for you
The biggest transformation happens when you understand your hair’s needs—not just its curl type.
Curl type is just one small piece of the puzzle. Healthy, well-cared-for curls come from understanding your hair, not from fitting it into a category.
Why does curl classification matter?
• It helps you choose the right products and techniques for your hair.
• It sets realistic expectations—different curl types behave differently and require different care.
• But remember: curl type isn’t everything. Density, porosity, and strand thickness often have an even bigger impact on your hair routine than the curl pattern itself.
Are you making any of these?
1. Using products that don’t match your hair type or porosity.
2. Applying too much (or too little) product.
3. Skipping conditioner.
4. Styling on damp instead of soaking wet hair.
5. Touching your curls before they’re completely dry.
6. Skipping the diffuser and losing volume.

When I started taking care of my curls in 2020,
I was scared of silicones.
I checked every product
looking for anything “bad”…
ingredients ending in “-cone”,
“-conol” or “-siloxane”.
But was I actually right?
Silicones don’t damage your hair.
They sit on top
and create a coating.
This coating can reduce frizz
and add shine,
but silicones don’t hydrate your hair.
They just make it feel smoother.
And that’s often why your hair looks really good right after styling —
but worse a few days later.
Some silicones don’t wash out easily,
especially with very gentle shampoos.
So over time,
they can build up on the hair.
And you already know
what buildup does to curls —
it makes them feel heavy,
look dull,
and lose volume.
That’s the main issue —
silicones combined with very gentle shampoos
can lead to buildup.
Over time,
I became less strict about it.
I stopped being afraid of silicones
because I understand how they work —
and that you can always reset your hair
with a proper deep cleanse.
But for myself,
I choose to keep things simple.
It’s easier for me
to avoid silicones
than to constantly manage buildup
and use stronger shampoos.
