Thanks to the amazing team and patrons at Peake’s Quay for having The Pitch Hitters this summer. It’s really nice seeing them give other artists a place to share some music. Some of the best artists on PEI will just never get a chance to play. We sure do appreciate Peaks giving deserving artists a fair shot. All anyone wants is a shot.. We are both grateful for the opportunity but in all honesty had a blast playing to the best view in town.. I had an unbelievable turn out of customers/friends/family over the summer. Pretty darn awesome.. 😎

Once I owned my s&it, things got much better for me. I still need to learn how to handle stress and the nonsense dealing with personalities. I’m aware of my weaknesses and learning, always.
We are given so many opportunities. The position we are in is rarely anyone else’s fault. When we own that, it’s bliss. Not perfect, but better, and better, and better. After attending adult education with a kid who moved from somila and hearing some words from a fine young man who has not had any of the opportunities many of us just take for granted, it puts things into perspective.. Own your faults. Make a plan, stick to the plan. honour your words. It’s know body else’s fault.
Right here is a customer who makes my day as a barber as well as a guy who’s danced with the devil once or twice, hasn’t had a drink of alcohol in 7 years and has been always encouraging the fighters to come chat it out in or outside of the shop since I opened almost 7 years ago. We have amazing chats and learn from each others journey. However, if I had a drink, that is only my fault no matter what drove me to it. If you’re struggling I hope you find help..You can do it if you want to. Get rid of the negative Nellie’s. Sobriety is not a trend. It’s a lifestyle.

A great customer the other day said the fastest road to failure is trying to please everyone.. I wish I learned this long ago. To speak to that however, due to the volume of new customers and now the loyal customers who have built this little shop having to wait for cuts I am putting forth efforts into trying to find a way to accommodate without putting a cot in the shop. We have a few ideas which I’ll try after the tourists are gone. When you say ? After the tourists are gone I say.. As I said at the start of the summer and 30 times since my hours are concrete for the summer. I apologize for any inconvenience but very much appreciate your patience.. No one is in pain. It’s a haircut and we’ll get it done..

Definitely a nice feeling when not one but two barbers who have changed lanes send me their people..If 1/2 of those gents come back the program will be stuffy until I figure it all out.
⚠️That big parade and race is coming guys. New business, combined with teachers getting freshened up, as well as the gents who need to be race ready could be tight. I’m booking into the 21st as of now.

The haircut starts when you sit down. The service starts long before. From day one I have been an appointment based semi private barbershop. I love the way I work and operate.. The cost of doing business ( my favourite clipper breaking 🥲 supplies etc ) is enough to make any one question it but I love the craft, the social aspect, as well as the lifestyle..I’ve seen who I thought were the nicest guys in town become Jekyll or Hyde and shave their beard off in a tantrum when you can’t/won’t squeeze them in, then show up at my new shop pretending he didn’t know it was me, while stroking his new big gnarly beard. ( yeah I’m other bearded barber 🙄) I’ve seen barber narks, people give you one shot to read their minds and do exactly what their last barber of 20 years do take off because I’m not Harry Houdini, as well as people completely ignore what I’ve said for 6.5 ( almost 7 ) years as well as my expensive decals and signs like it doesn’t apply to them. It 💯 does. People are so incredibly interesting and I deal with many different personalities weekly. On the other hand, I’ve seen people who are not making huge money over book and over pay to be respectful and not want any money back..
I do try to give people the time they deserve..So super early changes the dynamic of the conversation as some people have struggles and don’t necessarily want to chat in front of others. I’ll most likely ask you to come back at the time of your appointment if my customer chooses, it happens often. Please be respectful as I’ll not be stating any earlier then the time booked unless I wave you in..I’m not asking much here. All I ask is you book the correct service ( not the cheapest ) online after you have your life in order, show up on time.. Boom. Easy peasy. If you don’t do that online stuff a walk in shop is your best option, not BB. I’ve thought about it. This is how I roll, and it’s very much within my right to do so.
All I’m going to say going forward to people who message me with ridiculousness, show up without appointments, or try to instil guilt wanting me to fix the worlds biggest problem that day is have a great day, because I genuinely wish that.. I am done letting people harsh my buzz simply for turning the key in my own business and choosing to work the way that works for me 😊 I love it and am lucky I do. I’m making a living and not building an empire.. To the many many many people who never rock the program. Thank you for showing me you actually care and respect what it is I do.

Hi all,

We have a lot of people messaging regarding appointments. We have a website for a reason. IF there are appointments on the website, go ahead and book.
Otherwise, the shop, as usual, is fully booked for the week. FULLY.
There is absolutely NO reason to message, especially saying “I know you’re full but…”.
It’s disheartening that people just don’t listen and continually message on the barbers days off.
The appointments on the site are all that are available. There are no squeeze me ins, no “I can come at 2 even though my appointment is at 3”.
THERE IS NO REASON TO MESSAGE THE BARBER ABOUT APPOINTMENTS.
It’s like clockwork. Every week at least 3 people message on the weekend trying to get in because it is always an emergency. A haircut is not an emergency.
Please be respectful of the barbers time as he is respectful of yours.

Any text messages received going forward will be ignored, unless you’re my landlord or website guy.

7.5 years ago I decided to offer a space for all folks but by design a space for people who find themselves wanting to chat about their addiction and recovery journey.. No judgement here, no audience, no answers, just what works for me as well as being available to listen with scissors in hand..I’m not after photo opportunities nor do I have anything to do with the sobriety of the amazing people who visit my shop.. It’s all them..We can’t fault ourselves for being human..If people do, that’s a “ them “ thing not an us thing..If a customer has 8 cubes of drug store gel in their hair but expects me to deliver show stopping cuts, that is a them thing but I personally faulted myself many times for not being perfect.... We can only control how we handle these roadblocks..If you had A weak moment, or a slip, you’re still in this fight and can win.. My chair is here, I’m here. Sometimes people just need to know someone gives a damn. we got this..
