As some of you may know, I have been away from work recently following the devastating loss of our baby girl. I am planning to return to my work in permanent makeup next month and while I am ready to step back into my work routine, I am also navigating a profound period of grief. I want to be open with you all about how we can best interact during this transition. If you are wondering how to approach me, here are a few gentle guidelines that would mean a lot to me:

It’s okay to acknowledge my loss: A brief “I am so sorry for your loss” or a supportive text is incredibly meaningful. You do not need to worry about finding the perfect words.

It is okay to say their name: Hearing Emma’s name validated is a comfort, not a trigger.

Please skip the “silver linings”: Phrases like “everything happens for a reason” or “at least...” can be deeply hurtful, even when well-intentioned.

Most of all, try to take your cues from me: Some days I may want to talk about it, and other days I may just need to focus entirely on the task at hand to get through the day. Both are okay.
