We’ve just received our 5th delivery of the true story “Don’t Cry” written by Chris’ husband, Andrew!

Born Carol Johnstone in wartime Cornwall, England, she spent her earliest years without a father & away from her mother, who was serving, through the Blitz, as a Staff Sister in Plymouth. She grew up in relatives’ homes & children’s shelters, learning resilience from the start. Adopted later into the household of a Rear Admiral, Carol’s life began in the shadow of absence but quickly grew into a story of resilience, family, and enduring love.

Across eight decades, she weathered heartbreak & hardship, raising children through lean years, losing loved ones far too soon, and carrying the quiet strength that kept her family together. Her journey is one of courage, laughter, and faith, where ordinary days often became extraordinary moments of perseverance.

Through her life she carried different names, born a Johnstone, later becoming a Dunn, then a Franklin and finally a Bonny. Yet she was always, at her core, a woman defined not by circumstance but by the love she gave & the legacy she built. From the Cornish coast to the streets of Bath, Carol’s journey carried her through hardship and loss, but also moments of joy: raising her children, welcoming grandchildren, and building lifelong friendships that brought laughter and light.

At its heart, Don’t Cry is a true story of survival & belonging. It is about finding light in the darkest of times, and the power of family bonds that hold fast through every storm.
